Position Overview
Reporting to the President, the Director of Business Development leads Trickle Up’s growth in grant funding including family foundations; corporate foundations; bilateral and multi-lateral funders; and other awards and grants. Securing new business and grant opportunities, as well as managing existing donors, to meet the strategic and financial needs of Trickle Up, the Director of Business Development supports funding to aid program implementation in our two regions and our global work with refugees.
Principle Functions
The Director is responsible for leading Trickle Up’s business development function, including:
- Building and managing a pipeline database to ensure funding prospects are aligned, vetted, and sufficient to support T.U.’s organizational strategy and funding needs.
- Engaging in high-level networking and relationship building, including lead generation and research for large institutional funding opportunities and outreach to key decision-makers.
- Monitoring and staying informed of key funding trends and opportunities as they emerge and pertain to Trickle Up’s work.
- Supporting our program teams in identifying and cultivating international and local grant prospects (including RFPs) alongside senior leadership and ensuring consistency and internal buy-in in the development of funding proposals.
- Facilitating and coordinating funder meetings with the President, VP of Programs, and Program heads.
- Leading and coordinating the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals in close collaboration with the Grant Writer, Director of Program Quality, and VP of Programs.
- Supporting the start-up of new projects once approved by funders, to ensure clear continuation of the grant management processes and a smooth transition to program operations and program teams.
- Ensure consistent and responsive follow-up with all existing and prospective institutional funders and grantors and ensure that all records related to institutional funding are complete, timely, and accessible.
- Establish annual goals by funder segment and report progress quarterly, working closely with the VP of Finance and Operations.
- Capture and share learnings from proposal processes to inform adjustments to processes and procedures.
- Present quarterly business development progress to the Trickle Up board and work with the chair of the Program Committee to develop quarterly presentations and insights.
- Actively participate and engage in leadership team discussions as part of the DRT (Direct Reports Team).
Qualifications
Education and language requirements
- BA degree required, Master’s in Public Policy, International Development, Business Administration, or other relevant field highly recommended.
- Full professional fluency in written and spoken English.
- Working proficiency in Spanish is desirable.
Experience requirements
- Minimum of 10 years experience in institutional fundraising and grant development with experience in the international development sector.
- Demonstrated track record of leading large proposal processes and raising significant institutional funding from a range of donors and funders.
- Experience in international project management, program quality, or monitoring and evaluation is a plus.
- Familiarity and experience with at least 2-3 large international donors.

- Demonstrated experience in managing and training for grant development processes in a cross-cultural context.

Salary and Benefits:
We offer a salary between $100,000 - $120,000 commensurate with experience along with benefits for this full-time position.
