Responsibilities

Reporting to the assistant vice president for Annual Giving, the associate director is responsible for the overall management and execution of a comprehensive parent & family philanthropy and engagement program.

The Parent & Family Philanthropy and Engagement program is designed to raise funds from, and provide meaningful engagement opportunities for, parents and families of current and former Florida State University students. The associate director will oversee focused solicitation strategies to persuasively present the priorities and case for university support in order to successfully increase parent and family philanthropy and engagement at FSU. This position will also work closely with the various colleges and units to create a more robust engagement by leveraging existing events both on and off campus. Additionally, the associate director will also provide programmatic support to the assistant vice president in growing and facilitating the activities of the Parent and Family Advancement Council.

Manage a comprehensive parent & family philanthropy and engagement program in partnership with the assistant vice president. Participates in short and long-range strategic planning for the Parent & Family Philanthropy and Engagement program in collaboration with other staff members and the assistant vice president of Annual Giving. Create and implement solicitations customized for families and parents using various channels (direct mail, email, social media, text, etc.). Analyze results of omni-channel solicitations, including events, to provide key metrics and guide future solicitation strategies.

Work collaboratively with other unit fundraisers to create strategies for parent and family prospects with unit-specific interests. Facilitate a partnership between various campus departments including Admissions, Orientation, the Division of Student Affairs and all of the colleges and units across campus.

Oversee the data exchange and integrity of parent and family data. Manages an Annual Giving coordinator who supports parent & family philanthropy and engagement activities.

Help plan and coordinate associated activities for the Parent & Family Advancement and Engagement Council.   

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience related to the duties of the position; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience in the same equal to eight years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office products suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), or equivalent software.

A self-starter, comfortable working independently.

Ability to maintain consistent and positive communication with the Dean and Foundation.

Excellent communication skills to include effective and persuasive writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

Ability to facilitate strong communications with colleagues, donors, prospective donors and alumni, including letters, surveys and telephone solicitation programs.

Must be a creative thinker and a recognition of the impact of meaningful stewardship.

Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detail-oriented environment.

Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

A valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License, or the ability to obtain.

Advanced degree preferred.

Professional demeanor with a teamwork approach, and a can-do, assertive philosophy.

Minimum of four years of professional experience in major gift development in a university setting. Experience in a related field with basic knowledge of personal solicitation methods may also be considered.

Experience with Black Baud’s CRM Platform or other fundraising information management systems/databases.
