Treatment Action Group (TAG) seeks a dynamic, motivated, and skilled individual to become its Director of Development supporting the organization as it continues to grow. This position will report to TAG’s Chief Operating Officer. This is a full-time, salaried role.

The Director of Development will provide leadership with the direction, planning, and execution of fundraising, development, and advancement activities for TAG. This will include cultivating donor relationships, working with the board of directors to drive giving, and acquiring/creating other revenue streams and partnerships. This individual will leverage their experience to develop and implement a strategic plan to raise funds for TAG in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner and oversee all organizational fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will work closely with leaders and operations staff across the organization to identify, pursue, and manage funding sources.

Key Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Fundraising and Partnerships

  • Prospect and engage new and existing funders to diversify and grow TAG’s revenue from:
    • Corporate gifts and sponsorships;
    • Foundations and grant makers;
    • Major donors and individual giving, through board-directed giving, appeals, and events;
    • Extensive collaboration with TAG’s program directors.
  • Partner with the board of directors on fundraising events and initiatives, including supporting the board in donor cultivation.
  • Work closely with TAG’s Executive Director, Chief Operations Officer, Grants Administrator, and other key staff to involve them in development activities, donor cultivation, and events.
  • Lead planning and execution of TAG donor events, including our annual Research in Action Awards.
  • Create a long-term development strategy for TAG, including the aforementioned funding sources as well as new sources of income such as an endowment.
  • Develop and manage procedures and systems for grant-related activities, including administration and ensuring that reporting requirements are met, in collaboration with program directors.

Organizational Leadership and Management

  • Manage TAG’s Grants Administrator to oversee and grow TAG’s grants portfolio.
  • Work with communications staff to develop promotional materials for fundraising initiatives.
  • Partner with Project Directors to engage and maintain funder relationships, including supporting monthly program financial meetings, monitoring financial compliance.
  • Increase and maintain integrity of TAG’s donor data, including ongoing maintenance of its CRM, creation of organization-wide data entry standards, and utilizing this data in the development of a development strategy, as well as for targeted outreach.

Background and Experience

  • Demonstrated success helping non-profit organizations grow their revenue from a variety of funding sources;
  • Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to plan and execute fundraising campaigns, including with major donors as well as aimed at generating new donors;
  • Proficiency with donor database applications/client relationship management (CRM) tools, previous experience managing database migration and data quality improvement;
  • Ability to use technology and electronic media, including the web and social media, to support fundraising;
  • Excellent research, oral communication, and writing skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills; friendly rapport with the ability to communicate effectively in a collegial manner and maintain relationships;
  • Ability to be a self-starter who can work independently and proactively in periods of limited supervision;
  • Superb organization skills, attention to detail, and follow-through;
  • Receptivity to feedback;
  • Demonstrated experience or commitment to working in a multicultural environment where commitment to diversity based on race, ethnic and national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, and physical ability is an important institutional value;
  • Enthusiasm for TAG’s mission is a must; familiarity with advocacy, public health, policy making, or lived experience with the conditions on which TAG works, is a plus.

Salary & Benefits

The annual compensation range will be $80,000 – $95,000, commensurate with experience, skills, and performance. TAG offers a competitive benefits package that includes fully-employer paid health insurance for the employee and their dependent(s), and generous paid vacation (starting at four weeks, plus additional paid sick leave, and holidays). Location and Hours

This is an exempt position, with 40 hours per week expected ‌within TAG’s office hours (9am – 5pm or 10am-6pm ET). Work on evenings and weekends may be required at times.

TAG’s preference is for a New York City-based applicant but will consider fully remote candidates.

TAG does not require employees to work from our New York City headquarters office until further notice, however there is a preference for a candidate who can attend donor meetings and work in the office when tasks require.
