University of the Pacific invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Vice President Development (AVP). The AVP will provide leadership and strategic direction to secure individual and institutional support at the major and principal gift levels to advance Pacific's mission and priorities. The AVP is responsible for leading and supervising Development and Unit Officers as assigned and Estate and Gift Planning staff, and will be directly involved in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of gifts.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for Development, the AVP will assist with strategic planning and implementation of fundraising priorities, ensure related administrative oversight and is responsible for personally managing a portfolio of donors and prospects. The new AVP will have a working knowledge of current best practices in all aspects of fundraising and will collaborate with colleagues in the Development and Alumni Relations and across the campus. 

In this role, the AVP will:

  • Provide strategic oversight, leadership and coaching in developing fundraising business plans and standards to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Supervise frontline development officers for the following schools and units: School of Engineering and Computer Science, Eberhardt School of Business, Benerd School of Education, Conservatory of Music, College of the Pacific, Student Life and Estate and Gift Planning.
  • Lead, advise, and inspire a team of diverse development professionals to promote awareness, enhance relationships, and generate support for Pacific.
  • Maintain a portfolio of prospects and donors associated with a school and college as well as special projects.
  • Develop a fully integrated annual University Development business plan and annual budget for school and unit development programs and estate and planning giving to successfully achieve fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with leadership team members, the Senior Associate Vice President and Deans to review and analyze the ongoing effectiveness of fundraising programs and staff.

The preferred candidate will have seven years professional experience as a seasoned performance-driven development officer of higher education or nonprofit institution and a minimum of seven years management experience. A Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred. 

This is an onsite role based in Stockton, CA.

The estimated salary range for this position is $150-175k.
