POSITION TITLE: Assistant Regional Director, Brooklyn

REPORTS TO: Senior Associate Regional Director and Liaison to the Hasidic/Haredi Community

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY

Grade/Class: Grade E, Exempt, PSA-Eligible

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

With a focus on Brooklyn, work in partnership with the Regional Operations team to plan, develop, and implement regional program and communications strategies including coalition building, advocacy initiatives, program development and volunteer management. This position also leads the incident response protocol for Brooklyn, collaborating with regional and national teams as needed. May include some or all of the following: interfaith outreach, law enforcement enagagement, civil rights, leadership development, public relations, events planning, social media and fundraising.  Provide staff support to assigned committee/s.  May assist with office operations.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Develop community relationships, deepen existing partnerships, and network with Brooklyn-based community groups to facilitate effective community action.
  • Receive and conduct initial investigation of complaints of discrimination, antisemitic incidents and other civil rights issues. Conduct routine fact-finding research, using established contacts and developing sources as appropriate. Resolve complaints or refer to senior staff as necessary.  Maintain required records.
  • Monitor the news and social media for antisemitic incidents to submit for inclusion in the annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents. Assist Regional Operations team with processing batches of incidents from law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintain contacts with the staff of elected officials and relevant government officials to promote the mission of ADL.
  • Provide staff support to volunteer committees as assigned. Assist with related program and event planning.  Coordinate speakers and logistics for related conferences.
  • May manage, maintain, and regularly update the Regional website and other social media.
  • Represent ADL by speaking to constituents, community groups, school and student groups and law enforcement agencies. Conduct training directly and/or train volunteers as appropriate.
  • Assist in the smooth-functioning of the office administration.
  • Undertake ad hoc research projects and provide special events assistance as required.

 

Secondary:

 

  • May participate in fundraising events, cultivate potential donors and assist in maintaining donor relationships.
  • May schedule appointments, speaking engagements and coordinate meetings. Coordinate conference calls.  Make travel arrangements as required.
  • May provide administrative support to special events, board retreats and coordinate regular board meetings. Undertake all necessary details of event logistics; reserve location, negotiate contracts, plan menus, arrange set up, mail invitations and monitor reservations.
Qualifications

Skills:  

  • Strong familiarity and high cultural competency with Brooklyn’s diverse demographics and communities
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills and comfort interacting with individuals from a wide variety of social and political backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to work with and influence a wide variety of audiences through diplomacy and conflict resolution; experience in case work or crisis intervention a plus.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, including the use of analytical judgement while processing a high volume of detailed information from multiple sources.
  • Excellent writing ability.
  • Dedication to teamwork, cooperation, diversity, inclusion and respect.
  • Familiarity with public policy and legislative government processes.
  • Volunteer and relationship management experience.
  • Digital and social media literacy.
  • Outstanding time management, ability to multi-task with strong administrative and organizational skills; must be able to work independently and manage competing demands.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and database management (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel plus Salesforce).

Work Experience:  

  • One to two years of progressively responsible human relations or community service experience including some program management experience.

 

Education:  

  • A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.

Work Environment: 

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to represent ADL and to attend community events and respond to incidents.  Some travel within the region is required. 
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.
  • Occasional travel within New York.
  • ADL COVID-19 Protocol (updated periodically)ADL is adhering to public health guidance regarding COVID-19. ADL will require that all employees are vaccinated with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations. ADL is requiring proof of vaccination. ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office. 

Compensation: 

  • This position has a salary range of $58,000 to $65,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
