Title: Chief Operating Officer 

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to elevate operational effectiveness and efficiency across the organization while maximizing financial and operational performance.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO is an integral member of the executive team, providing strategic guidance, championing initiatives, and fostering strong relationships to increase the capacity and impact of Grand Canyon Conservancy (GCC). This leadership position oversees critical areas such as Retail Operations, Park Partnership Programs, Grand Canyon Conservancy Field Institute, Facilities Maintenance, and Information Technology (IT), comprising approximately 50 total staff.

The Chief Operating Officer position demands a unique blend of strategic vision, leadership, business acumen, subject matter expertise, emotional intelligence, and passion. The ideal candidate is a seasoned nonprofit executive with experience setting objectives, improving outcomes, and cultivating a high-performing team. They must possess strong leadership, organizational management, and strategic planning skills, while understanding environmental education and conservation.

Respect for the cultural significance of Grand Canyon to Indigenous communities and a desire to foster positive relationships with diverse groups is crucial. A passion for nature and a commitment to conservation drive their efforts to protect and preserve Grand Canyon’s cultural and ecological assets.

Grand Canyon Conservancy is the official nonprofit partner of Grand Canyon National Park. It raises private funds, operates retail shops within the park, and provides premier guided educational programs about the natural and cultural history of the region. Originally called the Grand Canyon Natural History Association, GCC was founded to support interpretive programs and publications about the canyon.

Location 

The Chief Operating Officer can work from home or the GCC office in Flagstaff, AZ, and must be located within a four-hour drive to Grand Canyon’s South Rim. Travel to the office at Grand Canyon National Park will be required approximately 10% of the time. This position may be required to occasionally work long hours and weekends. 

Compensation  

This is a full-time, exempt, benefit-eligible position. The anticipated annual salary for this position is $150,000, commensurate with experience.
