The Grants Manager works closely with leadership staff and program staff to ensure a high level of excellence in grant development, research, tracking, and reporting. The Grants Manager is responsible for creating proposals, researching new and emerging grant opportunities, facilitating team meetings, collaborating to create narrative and financial reporting, and supporting staff with training and resources.

The Grants Manager position requires a high degree of organizational skills, attention to detail, project management, team collaboration, as well as excellent writing, editing, and synthesizing skills. The position reports to the Advancement Director. The Grants Manager works closely with the Advancement Director, the Executive Director, and the Program Director.

Writing and Support

  • Develop and write grant proposals, collaborating with Program staff, the Executive Director, and the Advancement Director on content
  • Collaborate with fundraising staff on the creation of high-level fundraising marketing materials
  • Coordinate with the finance team for up-to-date organizational and program budgets, and financial reports for funders
  • Support staff with creating grant reports, quarterly funder reports, and the Annual Report
  • Manage training and support efforts for program staff to find and acquire new funding for existing and emerging programs

 

Systems Management & Research

  • Create, manage, and track queries in DA’s Foundation Directory Online database account for prospective funding across campaigns and departments
  • Manage the grants calendar, including meetings/calls/outreach to funders, due dates for proposals and reports, and grant cycles
  • Upload grant reports and proposals to foundation portals
  • Keep staff on track with funder outreach and prospect portfolios
  • Track grant requests, awards, receipts of funds, and funder communiques in the database
  • Schedule, create agendas, and facilitate regular grant meetings
  • Organize applications, track, and support the internal Community Grants Program and staff

 

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Practices

  • Support and implement the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in DEI related work both individually and across the department, with special emphasis on partner driven work and initiatives related to grant funding and sustainability
  • Continue individual and professional learning and accountability in the area of racial justice and DEI work

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of grant writing and management experience, including familiarity with funder portals, grant cycles, and funder communications
  • Demonstrated successful grant fundraising
  • Preferred experience writing grants for environmental non-profits/causes
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on projects with a variety of teams
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, and project management
  • Strong organizational skills and familiarity with using project management systems with teams, funder databases, Slack, and the Google Drive platform
  • Preferred experience with Foundation Directory online and EveryAction (or similar CRM)
  • Strong problem-solving experience
  • A participatory management style that encourages collaboration, cooperation, and personal growth
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and understanding of how to implement DEI practices within the scope of grants management

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range is $65,000-$70,000, depending on experience. Benefits package includes health insurance, SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with employer contribution, generous paid time off, flexible work hours and an excellent working environment. Every other Friday, the team takes half-day refreshers to rest & rejuvenate. 

The Grants Manager is a full-time position, is exempt and reports to the Advancement Director. This position is primarily remote, with the possibility of occasional, as-needed travel for team retreats, board meetings, and other events. This position utilizes frequent Zoom meetings and phone calls.
