About the position: 

Every day the Individual Philanthropy & Foundation Relations team has the opportunity to engage in work that contributes to achieving Americares strategic vision and has a significant impact on the organization's bottom line. This role will build meaningful long-term relationships with new and existing major donors and take a strategic approach to grow their lifetime giving and connection to Americares. 

 

Key Outcomes: 

In the first 90 days:  

  • Complete Americares onboarding and begin to cultivate strong internal relationships within the IP/FR Team. 

  • Have a good understanding of where Americares operates, key programmatic priorities. 

  • After 90 days a Development Officer would have made initial contact with each prospect on their portfolio introducing themselves and requesting a meeting. 

  • Attend a minimum of 5 joint donor meetings with the Associate Director.

 

In the first 6 months:  

  • Successfully attend a minimum of 5 donor meetings with individuals within their portfolio, and geographic prospecting while continuing to attend joint donor meetings with the Associate Director. 

  • Begin to solicit their caseload. 

  • Assist in the planning of donor cultivation events. 

  • Be fully proficient in CRM, Sharepoint and OneNote. 

  • After 6 months a Development Officer would have made initial contact with each prospect on their portfolio introducing themselves and requesting a meeting. 

  • Within 6 months, a high performer should begin to build strong internal relationships cross-functionally with the marcoms, donor relations, emergency program, and events team. 

 

 

In the first year: 

  • You know your caseload and are cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donor relationships, with the goal of raising a minimum of $500K annually once fully onboarded. 

  • You are partnering with the team, Chief Development Officer, and President & CEO to arrange donor visits to cultivate and solicit high-level prospects in the regions you are cultivating. 

  • You’re maintaining a regular travel schedule to meet with your portfolio. 

  • Each day you serve as a compelling, energetic, and professional representative of Americares. After a year, you should be able to fluently write and speak about all facets of our local, domestic, and global programming with donors. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to the collective team and organizational revenue goals by qualifying a caseload of 100 current and prospective donors, with a focus on annual gifts of $5,000 or more. 

  • Support the Associate Director with membership development of the NY-metro area Leadership Council. Assist with community engagement and cultivation events to advance the Leadership Council in the Northeast. 

  • Create a goal and plan for each qualified donor in your caseload that is driven by that donor's passions, interests, and communication preferences and execute that plan. 

  • Maintain a travel schedule to maximize face-to-face time with your portfolio, which will span the tri-state area and mid-Atlantic region. 

  • Consistently deliver an exceptional donor experience across all your communications: email, grant proposals, handwritten notes, over the phone/Zoom, and in-person events to keep your donors connected with Americares. 

  • Partner with the prospect research team to continue shaping the portfolio to achieve maximum results. 

  • Maintain the historical integrity of our database (Blackbaud CRM) by logging your donors' contacts and relationship development in a timely and accurate manner. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

We’d love to hear from you if…  

  • 2 + years of experience personally soliciting and closing major gifts. 

  • Proficiency using a CRM and an appreciation for good record-keeping.  

  • Strong attention to detail. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills (please be prepared to share a sample of your writing).  

  • You have a history of leading successful initiatives with measurable results. You're comfortable asking for money and are not afraid to hear no.  

  • Highly refined emotional intelligence and the ability to relate to, communicate with, and build consensus across a wide range of audiences. 

  • Goal-oriented, ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, carry out projects independently, manage multiple deadlines, and take initiative. 

  • You're a great communicator and listener; you know how to synthesize even the smallest interaction with someone and determine next steps to bring them closer to the organization. 

  • You approach all your relationships with integrity, reliability, and professionalism. 

  • You have language skills in at least one of our core languages, other than English: Spanish, Tagalog, Hindi, Kiswahili, Haitian Creole (this would be a plus, but is not a requirement) 

  • You have US work authorization (required)
