Vice President of Development
State Theatre New Jersey
New Brunswick, NJ (Open to Hybrid Employment)
State Theatre New Jersey is the largest performing arts venue in Central New Jersey, and for over 100 years has been an anchor institution serving generations of theatregoers, students, and our community. From its beginnings as a silent movie house to today’s world-class performance venue, State Theatre New Jersey (STNJ) has long contributed to New Brunswick’s reputation as a destination for arts and entertainment in New Jersey and its continued economic vibrancy.
STNJ is at an exciting moment in its history. In 2023, the organization completed a $25.5 million capital campaign to fund capital improvements focused on enhancing accessibility, providing upgrades and maintenance, and enhancing the audience and artist experience. Looking forward, STNJ seeks to continue its momentum by diversifying philanthropic income sources and expanding revenue and membership.
STNJ seeks and entrepreneurial and resourceful Vice President of Development (Vice President) to design and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy focused on the expansion of major gifts, foundations, special events, e-philanthropy, annual membership funding, and planned giving. S/he will lead existing fundraising activities while systematically identifying and designing new opportunities, ensuring that the approach is entrepreneurial, comprehensive, and prospect driven.
To diversify income sources, the ideal candidate will build a robust major gifts program, expand and diversify the prospect base, and cultivate relationships for solicitation in an environment where the prospective donor constituency is not immediately obvious. S/he will develop strategies and mechanisms to engage younger demographics in membership and philanthropy. The Vice President will oversee STNJ’s membership program, including campaigns and philanthropic marketing, to expand membership and philanthropic revenue.
The Vice President will design meaningful, compelling, and persuasive philanthropic cases for support, fundraising materials, proposals, and presentations aligned with STNJ’s mission. S/he will engage the President and Chief Executive Officer and Board of Trustees in public outreach and fundraising activities, providing meaningful engagement opportunities and effective support.
The Vice President will report to the President and Chief Executive Officer, serve on the Leadership Team, and lead a team of three professionals: Senior Manager of Development Operations, Manager of Institutional Giving, and Membership Manager. The candidate will partner with the President and Chief Executive Officer to identify individuals to nominate to the Board of Trustees and serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.
