The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is currently seeking an innovative, energetic and collaborative leader to assume the position of Grant Writer. The primary responsibility of the position is to research grant opportunities and potential funding in support of the university strategic initiatives. This position is also responsible for grant proposals to secure financial support for university priorities.

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) strives to serve students – 35% of whom are first-generation, 99% of whom receive some form of financial aid, and 18% of whom are non-white at the undergraduate level – by making learning accessible and affordable. One of the University’s signature initiatives is Open Educational Resources, which offers no-cost course materials and reduces the economic burden on students and families. The academic programs at the institution utilize flexible delivery modes, including face-to face, hybrid, and online course offerings and programs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Research possible grant opportunities and support the university process for grant development, submission, and acceptance of potential grants.
  2. Respond to inquiries for grant opportunity information and assist with the application process.
  3. Draft and complete information relevant to grant applications.
  4. Facilitate communication among project key stakeholders throughout the grant development, application, and implementation processes.
  5. Assist and facilitate administration and funder compliance of grant funded projects.
  6. Assist with implementation and maintenance of records and computer databases.
  7. Keep informed on the best practices in the grants management field and recommend improvement to the grants management process.
  8. Assist with annual Office of Advancement events such as Phone-a-thon, golf events, sporting events and regional alumni events.
  9. Provides administrative and organizational support for the grants office.
  10. Communicate effectively with constituents within the University, surrounding community, and funding agencies regarding the University and its project proposals.
  11. Perform other duties as requested.

Relationships: 

Position requires daily contact with UPIKE faculty, staff, and community in order to develop possible grant opportunities. Hybrid and remote work options available. Relationships are maintained through various modes of communication including, but not limited to, e-mail, telephone, written, and person-to-person contact.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required.
  • Previous grant writing experience is required.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, excellent communication skills, and strong organizational skills are necessary.
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to multitask, conduct relevant research, develop project budgets, and meet deadlines.
