New York Restoration Project (NYRP) believes that access to
nature is a fundamental human right. We work to ensure that all New
Yorkers have equitable access to green space. For over 25 years,
NYRP has invested in and stewarded parks and gardens throughout the
city’s five boroughs to strengthen communities, promote food
sovereignty, and counter environmental and social injustice.
As a key member of NYRP’s Advancement team, the Individual and
Corporate Giving Director (ICGD) will lead the individual and
corporate giving programs with a focus on major
gifts. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), they
will work closely with the CAO, Board of Trustees, and Executive
Director to develop and execute a plan for the identification,
qualification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and
stewardship of new donors and prospects and the engagement of
NYRP’s current supporters. The ICGD will direct fundraising
strategy and program implementation in these areas and be
accountable for annual individual and corporate revenue
goals. They will supervise the Individual Giving Officer and
Corporate Giving Manager.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, implement, manage, and grow a proactive development
plan to expand individual major gift and corporate
- Monitor proposal deadlines and prepare and edit highly
competitive proposals in support of NYRP’s goals.
- Oversee goal setting, performance monitoring, reporting, data
integrity, and budgeting for individual and corporate fundraising
Individual Fundraising (70%)
- Develop and implement a moves management system that identifies
specific prospect portfolios to be managed by the ICGD and
Individual Giving Officer, as well as creating/recommending
portfolios for the CAO and Executive Director.
- Proactively support the CAO, Executive Director, and Board of
Trustees in fundraising, including providing thorough donor
research and meeting preparation, and creating compelling
presentations, engagement opportunities, and fundraising
- Supervise the Individual Giving Officer in managing and growing
a portfolio of major and middle donor prospects and donors;
managing and expanding NYRP’s Chairman’s Council; and identifying
major gift prospects arising from the direct response marketing
Corporate Fundraising (30%)
- Steward and grow multi-faceted relationships with key corporate
funders, including identification and cultivation of new major
partners and annual impact reporting.
- Supervise the Corporate Giving Manger in securing new corporate
partners; executing corporate employee engagement activations
citywide for 1,500+ volunteers annually; and ensuring fulfillment
of sponsor recognition and other benefits.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree
- Eight+ years of progressive related experience in fundraising,
with a history of securing five- and six-figure individual and/or
- Proven track record building relationships with high net worth
donors and ability to close major gifts.
- Experience supervising and mentoring staff.
- Experience and facility in using a donor database (strong
preference for Raiser’s Edge) or CRM system (e.g., Salesforce) for
moves management and reporting.
- Commitment to NYRP’s mission; familiarity with funders in the
environmental space a strong plus.
- Willingness to develop a thorough understanding of NYRP’s
mission, programs, and green space portfolio, and ability to
effectively articulate the organization’s priorities and
- Superior research, writing, editing and verbal communication
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Fluency in standard computer programs (Microsoft Office, Adobe
Creative Suite, and Canva).
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at once while
working under deadlines.
- Willingness to work on a flexible schedule and travel
throughout NYC, including occasional weekend or evening
The position is based out of our central office at 254 W. 31st
Street, New York, NY 10001 with travel required to all five
boroughs of New York City. Currently office staff are expected to
work at least 2 days per week from the office; the remaining 3 days
are remote or at project sites.
