Lehman College, the City University of New York's only four-year college in the Bronx, seeks a vice president for institutional advancement (VPIA) to lead its development, alumni relations and associated programs.
Lehman serves the borough and surrounding region as an intellectual, economic and cultural center. Lehman provides undergraduate and graduate studies in the liberal arts and sciences and professional education within a dynamic research environment. With a diverse student body of more than 14,000 students and more than 81,000 alumni, Lehman offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate programs. Ranked as having the fourth highest mobility rate in the nation by the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Equality of Opportunity Project, Lehman is a proud catalyst for economic and social mobility for its students, almost half of whom are first-generation college students.
Reporting to and partnering with President Fernando Delgado, whose tenure began in 2021, Lehman's new vice president will benefit from the immediate opportunity to build an infrastructure to suit a new strategic vision, providing a focused initiative around which both to plan operations and to build resources for the program. The vice president will join a senior executive team that emphasizes collaboration and collegiality and will work within a campus community that is highly dedicated to the institution's mission and success. Lehman has been a successful fundraising institution across recent years, but its focus has been on a limited number of donors and prospects, thus necessitating an investment of people and time in building a pipeline of prospects and in developing a focused case for support across the entirety of the prospect spectrum.
Accomplishing these tasks will require a vice president of considerable skill and experience, one with a personal track record as a major- and principal-gift fundraiser and as a leader and agent of change. Senior leadership experience in a campaign setting is required, as is a history of broad engagement across the entirety of a college's constituencies. Superior strategic and communication skills are required, as is a bachelor's degree, with an advanced degree preferred. Perhaps most critical is a strong personal resonance with the college's mission and values, particularly regarding the populations it serves. In return, the vice president will benefit from the partnership of highly motivated, committed colleagues, a generous and engaged board, an energetic and focused president, a passionate alumni body and a compelling mission that is being pursued with vigor and enthusiasm across the entire spectrum of the institution.
With the focus and aspirations provided by a new strategic vision and the commitment and leadership of its president, Lehman College is poised for substantial success in constituent engagement and fundraising. It seeks a leader to play a central, historical role in ensuring its continued and enhanced success.
