Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine; strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.
Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.
The Director of Corporate Engagement and Events reports directly to the Executive Director of Development overseeing the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center Development Team and is responsible for a portfolio of 150+ prospects, and stewardship of existing corporate donors while recruiting new corporate donors. The Director works with the Pediatrician-in-Chief and Pediatric Surgeon-in-Chief of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and other faculty to fundraise for the Children’s Center. The Director is also responsible for directly managing two staff members, the Associate Director of Development, Corporate Relations, and the Assistant Director of Development, Corporate Relations. The Director is responsible for leading corporate relations and events strategy, as well as the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) partnership, new business, Corporate Advisory Board, and corporate-related and CMNH-related third-party special events.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Fundraising and Prospect Management
- Manage an active portfolio of 150 corporate prospects and donors and conduct more than 125 personal visits annually; implement a strategy for building new donor pipeline by developing corporate sponsorship packages and routinely identifying and engaging new corporate partnerships through research, qualification visits, writing proposals and conducting appropriate follow-up and stewardship.
- Directly responsible for creating and implementing new initiatives and strategies designed to increase dollars and hospital and community engagement in all corporate and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) events and partnerships, raising $3M+ annually.
- Develop and expand relationships with all CMNH corporate partners, including cultivation, engagement, and stewardship activities
- Execute all CMNH special events, including the 2nd top-grossing CMNH radiothon, which raises nearly $1.5M annually; Virtual gaming event, Extra Life; our annual Race; and our Dance Marathon efforts, which include five annual events – four at local colleges/universities/high schools and one hosted onsite at the Children’s Center
- Manage relationships with the CMNH national and regional teams at all levels, including leadership, and is responsible for semi-annual system-wide reporting and annual contract negotiation.
- Drive strategy for more than 25 corporate, community, media, and third-party fundraising events.
- Oversee the Corporate Advisory Board (CAB) and increase support through bi-monthly meetings, events, and ongoing correspondence. Cultivate, solicit, steward, and recruit CAB members as individual donors and via corporate giving. Execute all CAB events and initiatives.
- Provide supervision and support for the We Give for the Kids employee giving campaign.
Communications
- Oversee communications strategy with corporations regarding Hopkins Children’s updates and events. This may include letters, electronic updates, and invitations. Internally maintain Corporate Relations calendar of events.
- Oversee content creation for all three development social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and work with Marketing and Communications to ensure consistency and cross-posting.
- Prepare and present written and oral presentations for community and civic groups to encourage their support.
- Directly supervise two frontline fundraisers (Associate Director and Assistant Director) responsible for securing $1M+ in annual donations.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard new team members. Serve as leader and mentor for Women and Children’s Health (WCH) development team.
Management
- Directly supervise two frontline fundraisers (Associate Director and Assistant Director) responsible for securing $1M+ in annual donations.

Administration
- Develop Corporate Relations annual budget.
- Work with Executive Director of Development to create annual goals for the growth and expansion of the Corporate Relations and Events program. Prepare annual fiscal year work plan for corporate and event fundraising.
- Participate in Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins Development and Alumni Relations staff meetings and activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Seven years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of management experience
- Ability and willingness to travel within and outside of the state
- Access to reliable transportation
- Ability to work some weekends and evenings
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Excellent time management skills
