WaterAid America

Appointment of Chief Development Officer

There are 2 billion reasons why we do what we do. That's the number of people in the world who do not have a safe supply of clean water close to home.

At WaterAid, our mission is to transform lives through sustainable and safe water, sanitation and hygiene. Unless there is a monumental shift in ambition and approach, the global promise made in the Sustainable Development Goals for everyone, everywhere to have access to safe and lasting water and sanitation and basic hygiene by 2030 will not be fulfilled for decades to come.

With our partners and supporters, we have helped tens of millions of people transform their lives. With our new Global Strategy, we seek to catalyze change that will ensure these essentials are available to hundreds of millions more.

It is an incredibly exciting time to join WaterAid. With the launch of our ambitious Global Strategy, we are committed to being innovative and bold; we will measure our collective success by the hundreds of millions of peoplewe reach through systemic change.

About the Role

WaterAid America (WAA) is poised to become the lead contributor and driver of revenue growth for the WaterAid Federation. WAA will support our global mission, aims and ambitions by mobilizing funding from across the United States: the mass market, large foundations and institutional donors, USG, corporates and philanthropy (including HNWIs). As our global strategy prioritizes WaterAid's role in engaging and shaping the private sector, particular emphasis and growth in this portfolio is key to maximizing our impact.

The newly created role of Chief Development Officer, reporting to the WAA CEO, is charged with developing and driving strategies that steadily increase mission impact through the combined ‘firepower' of our Philanthropy, Partnerships, and Communications teams.

In the context of WaterAid's ambitious new Global Strategy, the CDO must be an experienced leader with strong vision and relationship-building skills, capable of inspiring and unlocking funding from across the full spectrum of partners and donor segments while also empowering others to establish high impact relationships and funding streams in service of our mission.

The CDO must be an effective agent-of-change with a demonstrated capacity to recruit, lead change efforts, and marshal the talents of a diverse and creative team. As our partnerships link philanthropists, corporates and major institutions to country programs around the globe, the CDO must be able to work effectively with and through diverse cultures to get the best out of others.

As a member of the WaterAid America Leadership team, effective business management and cross-functional leadership is essential. As America's representative on the Global Communications and Fundraising Executive Team (GCFE) the CDO must be adept at informal influence, shaping global vision and perspective, and leading change and transformation both within and beyond the fundraising function.

Please submit a CV and cover letter, detailing how you fulfill the role description and person specification to https://candidates.perrettlaver.com/vacancies/ quoting reference 6882. The deadline for applications is 9am EDT Friday, October 27, 2023.

The role location is flexible across the US, with a preference for the DC or New York metropolitan areas. Base salary range for the role is c.$175,000-$205,000USD. Actual compensation is based on multiple factors unique to each candidate, including and not limited to level of relevant experience, skill set, and specific work location.
