Reports to: Director of Individual Giving and Donor Engagement  

Department: Development

Status: Full-time; Permanent; Exempt

The Associate Director of Individual Giving and Donor Engagement (AD) fills the crucial role of fostering stronger connections with a select group of mid-level and major gift donors. The AD will actively engage in nurturing relationships, soliciting contributions, and ensuring the proper stewardship of annual, special, and planned gifts from donors and prospects. The AD will prioritize direct interactions with donors to facilitate meaningful engagement opportunities between donors and the school. The successful candidate will have a proven record in cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts. 


Essential Functions

Ongoing Responsibilities: 

  • Qualify major gift prospects from an existing pool of Curtis donors 
  • Identify additional prospects from Curtis’s patron, alumni, and other audiences 
  • Develop and implement action plans for prospect pool based on the donor’s history and the organization’s knowledge of that donor’s potential
  • Work cross-departmentally to secure appropriate program and budget information to create proposals to secure annual, major, and planned gifts 
  • Prepare impact reports as needed for donors 
  • Actively connect donors with the artistic and educational life of the school by attending recitals, concerts, and other events  
  • Assist with the identification and cultivation of donors for key Curtis volunteer committees 
  • Enter actions and reports into Raiser’s Edge to ensure proper notations of donor/prospect interactions and to produce accurate activity reports 
  • Review lists during the creation of annual reports, recognition lists, and appeals 
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends 
  • Other duties as assigned

Candidates should be able to demonstrate

  • Established success as an experienced professional in fundraising and donor engagement 
  • Knowledge or familiarity with planned giving is strongly desired; or demonstrated willingness to learn this area of development 
  • Ability to communicate the value and benefits of music education to all audiences 
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM software 
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills 
  • Ability to work with donors, committee members, and volunteer leadership with tact and diplomacy 
  • Ability to write effectively, speak persuasively, and present information logically and neatly in various contexts

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Position is located in Philadelphia
  • Exertional requirements are primarily routine office environment
  • Travel and some night and/or weekend work may be required
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer at the time of hire
  • COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for all positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and all new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated before beginning work


Compensation and Benefits

  • $80,000 - $90,000 gross annually salary, commensurate with experience
