The Advancement Division raises private funds to support the School
of Government’s work to improve the lives of North Carolinians
through teaching, research, and advising. The Advancement team
works closely with faculty and staff to identify individuals,
corporations, private foundations, and other private funders that
have an interest in supporting existing and emerging programs and
projects that improve North Carolina’s communities. The division
raises funds to support School work through sponsorships,
endowments, flexible annual funds, gifts and grants for specific
programs, projects and general program operating support, and
scholarships for MPA students and public officials.
The School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an Assistant Dean for Advancement to support the mission and priorities of the UNC School of Government. The Assistant Dean will build relationships with key donors and prospects and will have significant interaction with School faculty, staff and volunteers. The Assistant Dean is a comprehensive position with responsibility for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, building relationships with, and retaining donors and donor prospects to fund the short- and long-term needs of the School. The Assistant Dean will take direct responsibility for many major gifts ($100,000 and above) from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Because of additional leadership responsibilities for the Associate Dean, along with management of strategic school partnerships, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for oversight of the School’s Advancement division, including annual fund and alumni relations, donor relations, gift processing, acknowledgments, advancement communications and stewardship correspondence. The Assistant Dean will also manage the division’s annual workplan to ensure progress towards unit goals and metrics. The Assistant Dean will participate as a member of the University’s central development organization by attending appropriate campus-wide development meetings and will occasionally represent the Associate Dean for Advancement and Strategic Partnerships at these and other meetings as appropriate. The Assistant Dean reports to and works closely with the School’s Associate Dean for Advancement and Strategic Partnerships and supervises several positions in the Advancement division.
