Position Description

The Major Gift Officer (MGO) manages and grows a portfolio of funders with the capacity to give major and transformational gifts. The position involves research, cultivation, soliciting and stewarding of major gifts and planned gifts in support of UNOS strategic aims. This position represents UNOS in a variety of settings both independently and with other staff. This position requires frequent travel of up to 60%.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes the current major gift portfolio and develops strategies for maximizing Return on Investment.
  • Coordinates closely with UNOS Community Affairs & Philanthropy Department for the implementation of shared goals in sustained giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and grants, when applicable.
  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of department and organizational goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality and privacy standards.
  • Develops moves management plans for prospective funders, strategies for engaging with all constituents, and a stewardship program for UNOS’ most generous and loyal supporters including awards, recognition, and naming opportunities.
  • Identifies funding opportunities and develops cases for support.
  • Implements a robust referral and prospect identification system.
  • Manages a personal portfolio of up to 100 qualified prospects and active funders.
  • Observes and uses established UNOS Philanthropy policies and operating procedures, including, regular, timely and accurate recording of activities and moves management in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements

    5+ years of fundraising, philanthropy or other related experience

     

    Critical Skills

  • Proven track record in soliciting and closing five, six and seven figure single and multi-year contributions.
  • Healthcare-related fundraising experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and techniques of development/fundraising, including major gift, corporate and/or foundation fundraising.
  • Exceptional analytical, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituents.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong public speaking skills strongly desired.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, Raiser’s Edge NXT, and ResearchPoint preferred.
  • Financial literacy strongly preferred.

    Education

  • 4-year degree in philanthropy, public relations, journalism, communications, business or related field of study, or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree highly desired.
  • CFRE preferred.
