About the Position
The Director of Advancement and Campaign Communications will be responsible for setting and leading an exciting marketing and communications strategy and program that advances the fundraising efforts of Haverford College’s Institutional Advancement (IA) division for colleagues and programs in alumni and family engagement, special events, annual giving, campaign programming, donor relations and stewardship, major gifts (including parent and athletics giving), and planned giving. In partnership with Haverford’s College Communications team, the Director will lead all marketing and communication efforts for IA to prepare for the upcoming campaign, increase stakeholder engagement in ongoing fundraising and alumni engagement activities, complement and reinforce college-wide messages, engage audiences in new ways, and extend messaging across all digital and traditional media and channels.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee all marketing and communication efforts for IA including needs assessments, design, production, and implementation, ensuring compelling and consistent messaging across all external communications and marketing materials while using data to drive decision-making and planning
  • Partner with Haverford’s College Communications team on strategies to ensure messaging is aligned with other Haverford communications, including the Haverford website, Alumni Weekend, and other college-wide and IA-specific special events
  • Collaborate with the IA senior leadership and directors on the development and management of comprehensive short and long-term fundraising marketing and communication plans including detailing goals, tactics, timelines, budgets, and projections to increase alumni and constituent engagement and philanthropic support
  • Lead the development and management of marketing and communications for the forthcoming comprehensive campaign, including overseeing all external vendors and partners, while working closely with colleagues across IA, the President’s office, and the College Communications team to ensure consistent messaging aligned with the overall communications strategy for Haverford College
  • Ensure the strategies and content for Advancement Communications are conceived of and designed with a lens toward inclusivity, utilizing targeted segmentation strategies employed to engage underrepresented communities, especially BIPOC and LGBTQ+, women, young alumni, and international alumni
  • Other duties as needed to perform the functions of this position

Line of Report: The Director of Advancement and Campaign Communications reports to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. This position has one direct report and will oversee communications-related vendors, including editors and proofreaders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Six years of experience in communications

Professional Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative short and long-range communication and marketing strategies that broadly impact a division or organization
  • Experience building and implementing strategic marketing and communications plans including oversight of others and project management
  • Excellent communication skills including extensive experience with writing and editing
  • Ability to work independently and lead others in effectively prioritizing work and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to think and engage critically, strategically, and creatively about the work across Institutional Advancement and within the context of the Campaign and broader Haverford community
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a deadline-driven work environment while managing multiple projects and competing priorities with a high-level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work with confidential materials and situations with sensitivity, diplomacy, and discretion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Office Suite, mass email programs (such as Mailchimp)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in fundraising communications strategy including writing proposals and appeals
  • Knowledge of alumni engagement and fundraising programs
  • Familiarity with a liberal arts or higher education setting
  • Understanding of database management (specifically within Raiser’s Edge) and website host/platform management

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Must be willing to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed
