 The development director will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, Development Committee, CEO, Senior Management team, staff and volunteers to establish and implement a development plan to promote the growth of the organization. This person will direct the agency’s fundraising program to support the operating budget, capital campaign initiatives, program needs, and endowment growth. He/she will assist in preparing and monitoring the annual development program budget. And he/she will serve as staff liaison to the development committee. This position requires time in the office and remotely as needed.



Lead efforts to the identify, steward, cultivate and solicit appropriate donors and prospects. Establish a comprehensive development plan to include:

Ø Major gifts: develop a cultivation, identification, stewardship and solicitation plan for existing and prospective donors, including conducting prospect reviews.

Ø Corporate philanthropy: establish meaningful relationships with corporate leaders to seek their financial support through donations, sponsorships and in kind contributions.

Ø Planned giving: promote and execute planned giving program, including memorial gifts.

Ø Grant writing: research, identify and prepare proposals to meet organizations funding needs.

Ø Ensure annual leadership giving with CEO and Board Chair.

Ø Provide training and support to Development Committee, Board of Directors and volunteers.

Ø Lead annual giving efforts including direct mail and email appeals, social media and other strategies.

Ø Ensure timely gift acknowledgement and communication.

Ø Complete other duties as assigned.

Event Management

Serve as project lead in the planning, coordinating, executing of special events, while working closely with Development and Events Committees.

Ø Develop an annual event management plan that will include all internal and external events.

Ø Research and implement new fundraising initiatives and events in order to generate new sources of revenues to meet targeted fundraising goals.

Ø Successfully market and promote existing and future fundraising activities and events.

Ø Work closely with Development and Events Committee to coordinate volunteers


Oversee Marketing and Communications (hired by this position), development of strategies to identify, cultivate, establish meaningful relationships within the community to promote Lowell House’s mission, vision and fund raising goals.

Ø Assume direct responsibility for all public relations activities, maintaining contact with media representatives, community leaders and others in a position to support the mission of the agency.

Ø Develop and execute public relations strategies that will cultivate the community’s support of the agency’s mission.

Ø Responsible for publishing biannual newsletter and monthly e-newsletter.

Ø Responsible for press releases correspondence with media contacts and public speaking.

Ø Identify and plan opportunities to acknowledge volunteers, sponsors, donors and other support groups.

Ø Represent the agency at various events in order to establish and maintain meaningful relationships within the community.

Ø Design, produce and oversee that organization’s marketing materials present the mission, values and image in a comprehensive way.

Ø Supervise website management.

Ø Monthly reporting to Development Committee, Board of Directors and Executive Director; complete other reporting requirements to state, including quality outcomes report.


Ø Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in the field

Ø Three to five years of experience in development, marketing, communications, or related field

Ø Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ø Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively

Ø Excellent written, oral and organizational skills

Salary: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
