Working under the supervision of CFR’s Managing Director for Development, the Associate Director for Stewardship is responsible for the stewardship of CFR’s Major Donors through special events and activities. This position is a critical part of CFR’s fundraising team and works closely with colleagues across CFR, Trustees, and major donors to develop and implement a comprehensive stewardship program. The role offers the opportunity to apply creative and critical thinking skills in a wide range of communications and special events.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):
  • Serve as CFR’s main point of contact for all major donors and their offices
  • Develop, manage, and execute major donor events, including fall and spring dinners for CFR’s board members, major donors, and other VIPs; breakfast or lunches hosted by CFR’s president; annual Fall reception for visiting fellows; high-level tribute dinners for donors or other VIPs
  • Work with other departments to engage donors in special activities and ensure they receive priority treatment
  • Assist with strategies for new major donor cultivation and with identifying prospects for special campaigns or targeted gifts
  • Support the planning and executing of domestic and international trips for major donors and provide communication and on-the-ground support as needed
  • Track and maintain background and participation information on major donors
  • Identify major donors for involvement in other areas of the Council, such as advisory committees, task forces, and working groups
  • Work cross-departmentally to secure speakers for donor events and to determine venues, rooms, and caterers as needed
  • Work with members of the Development Department’s Annual Fund and Foundation Relations teams to help draft and/or proofread development office correspondence and other written material as needed
  • Manage a Development Associate’s work related to Special Projects
  • 6 or more years of experience in programming/event planning, including logistical and administrative experience
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, high attention to detail, and ability to multitask
  • Proven experience working with high level individuals and their offices
  • Outstanding discretion, resourcefulness, flexibility, professional judgment, and demeanor
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong proofreading and editing skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; CRM and/or other database management experience a plus
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Degree in related field with high academic credentials. Interest in current foreign policy issues
  • Ability to work flexible hours as necessary

Pay Range

$70,000 to $80,000 per year

Pay commensurate with experience and education
