About the American Associates of the National Theatre
The American Associates of the National Theatre (AANT) is a 501(c)(3) non-prof it organization based in New York that promotes and supports the work of the National Theatre in both Great Britain and the United States. Since 2005, the AANT has granted over $40 million to the National Theatre, providing essential funding which supports the NT’s mission to make theatre for everyone, with affordable ticket prices while reaching out to audiences of the future through extensive education programs. The NT and AANT completed an ambitious fundraising campaign, NT Together, to support the National Theatre’s recovery from the impact of the Covid -19 pandemic. Between April 2020-2022 the AANT and NT raised £40 million from all income streams, with $10 million of that total coming f rom our donors in the US.

The success of Tony Award-winning Broadway transfers including War Horse, One Man, Two Guvnors with James Corden, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Angels in America with Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane, Network with Bryan Cranston, Hadestown and The Lehman Trilogy, combined with the opportunity to share the National Theatre’s productions with US audiences year-round through NT Live, has enabled the AANT to capitalize on the high profile and reach of the National Theatre in the US and significantly increase its fundraising year on year, now granting up to $5 million annually to the NT.

Reporting directly to the Director of Individual Giving, the Individual Giving Manager will be one of seven highly collaborative team members based in New York – along with the Chief Operating Officer, Director of Individual Giving, Director of Institutional Giving, Director of Events and Strategic Partnerships, Events and Communications Manager and Development Operations Manager (currently being recruited), plus the Executive Director, based in California, all of whom are supported by a Board of Trustees and Honorary Council, as well as the National Theatre team in London.

The AANT secures the majority of its income from individual donors, through major gifts, appeals and a nationwide membership program of over 300 supporters with levels f rom $1,000 - $20,000, but has a mixed model of support which includes corporate sponsorship and grants f rom US Foundations. The AANT’s core programs of activity and hubs of support are focused on New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. A year-round events program is in place to cultivate and steward support , and high-profile fundraising Galas are planned when appropriate opportunities arise.


Individual Giving Manager (Full Time)
The American Associates of the National Theatre (AANT) is seeking an Individual Giving Manager (IGM) to join our team. The ideal candidate is a detail orientated, experienced fundraiser with an aptitude for engaging current and prospective members at the $1,000-$5,000 level. Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving (DIG), the IGM will administer our nationwide AANT Membership program, which represents over $1 million in
contributed revenue each year. They will cultivate, solicit, and steward individual supporters, focusing on strategies to attract new members and increase support from existing donors. The IGM will support the DIG and the Executive Director (ED) in meeting the fundraising goals and stewardship activities across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
• Work with DIG to strategically build the AANT membership program, with focus on acquisition of new supporters.
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with portfolio of donors giving $1,000 to $5,000 annually, understanding their personal motivations to support, and maximizing opportunities to encourage further giving.
• Conduct regular in-person meetings and Zoom/phone calls with current and prospective members.
• Act as primary point of contact for AANT members and ensure the highest possible standards of customer service are maintained, with a view to encouraging continued support.
• Stewardship of AANT members, including working with the NT Development office on coordinating ticket bookings, backstage tours, restaurant bookings, and overall concierge services.
• Work alongside the DIG and DOM to identify, research and curate a strong prospect pipeline of new members.
• Implement activity to promote planned giving to align with the “National Treasures” program at the National Theatre.

Finance & Data Management
• Work closely with the DIG and the NT Finance team to set ambitious targets for membership income, to assess risk and opportunity throughout the year, and amend forecasts as necessary.
• Manage the income and expenditure budget for AANT memberships ($1,000-$5,000).
• Proactively use the Tessitura database to record new and prospective members, for processing donations and renewals as needed, and as a reporting and prospect management tool.
• Compile and distribute briefing notes on member meetings for DIG and ED, and NT Senior
Development team when taking meetings in the US.
• Capture any relevant meeting notes or actions and update pipeline plans on Tessitura promptly to manage donor relationships.
Events and Member Communications
• Work closely with the AANT Events team to support a year-round program of high-quality donor and prospect events throughout the season, including coordinating invitation lists, ensuring maximum attendance from AANT members, assisting with the smooth running of events and managing donor follow-up after events.
• Draft and manage membership communications, including quarterly newsletters, monthly membership renewals, recruitment campaigns, and annual appeals utilizing both Tessitura and Wordfly as necessary.
• Oversee regular updating of accreditation for membership and donor listings for NT programs, donor boards, and AANT website.

Additional Tasks
• Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues in the National Theatre’s Development
department, and across the organization to maximize supporter engagement and income.
• Network with other development professionals to exchange best practices and develop innovative ideas to support fundraising goals.
• Any other duties as reasonably required by the Director of Individual Giving and Executive Director, and AANT Chair.

This position reports to the AANT Director of Individual Giving.


Individual Giving Manager (Full Time)
Person Specification

Essential experience and knowledge
• Three to five years of relevant fundraising and/or donor services experience; specifically, in the running of or working on a Patron program is highly desired.
• Experience of working with a fundraising database or customer relationship management (CRM) system, with Tessitura knowledge preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills, with impeccable attention to detail, the ability to multi -task, prioritize workload, and planning ahead.
• Ability to communicate with warmth and professionalism with a range of people at all giving levels – over the telephone, in writing and in person.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities.
• Experience of budget setting and monitoring.
• Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and an email management system (such as Word Fly, MailChimp, etc.) is highly desirable.
• Passion for and knowledge of the arts and theatre, as well as interest in and commitment to the overall aims of the National Theatre.

Terms and Conditions
Contract Type: This is a permanent, full-time position.

Hours: 5 days / 35 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary,
both with notice, to fulfil the post’s requirements. Time off in lieu can be taken f or these hours.

Salary: The expected salary range for this position is $65,000-75,000 per annum, paid biweekly. The successful candidate will be offered a salary within this range based on
specific factors including but not limited to their individual qualifications, experience, and
internal equity considerations.

Location: 600 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10020 (hybrid working in a serviced co-working space with a dedicated office space).

Annual Leave: 15 days in the first year, increasing with length of service up to a maximum of 20 days.

Probationary Period: 3 months

Notice Period: 4 weeks

Health Insurance: Provided after 3 months in the position. Covered in full by the AANT, including medical, dental, and vision.

401k: Provided after 3 months in the position - in addition to the contribution amount
designated by the employee, the AANT will make a matching contribution up to 6% of
basic pay.

Theatre productions, subject to availability. Theatre ticket allowance for other
