Germanna Community College invites applications and nominations for the Vice President for Community Engagement. Germanna seeks an accomplished leader who will serve as the chief fundraising, external affairs, and community liaison officer and be responsible for all activities related to fundraising in support of students and college operations.

Germanna is a highly ranked, comprehensive community college providing quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities for the residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford and for online learners everywhere. The College is fifth largest in the Virginia Community College System and serves over 12,000 students annually through associate degree and certificate programs, workforce credentials, and apprenticeships.

The Vice President for Community Engagement is a member of the senior leaders team, reports directly to the President and is charged primarily with working with the President and others to raise funds in support of students and operations. As the chief fundraising officer, the incumbent plays a central role in leading the college’s development operations with the purpose of maximizing philanthropic and community support for GCC. The Vice President will design and implement a strategic vision for community relations, fundraising, planned giving, real estate initiatives, and alumni relations in alignment with the College’s strategic plan, culture, mission and priorities. The Vice President will also represent the College in external and governmental affairs arenas.

The College and its community are dynamic and are experiencing growth, changes and some transformation.  The population centers of Fredericksburg, Stafford, Culpeper and Locust Grove are distinctly different; therefore, vision and diplomacy are required from the Vice President to harness and leverage their unique qualities to advance the College’s goals. The Vice President for Community Engagement will reside in the College’s service area and be deeply involved in community life and civic affairs.

The College has both an educational foundation and a separate real estate foundation—which has recently acquired some key assets that will help further the College’s vision for the future.  The College seeks to further build and refine its internal advancement processes to enhance its annual giving efforts, and it is also planning a noteworthy capital campaign that will be the largest is school history.  Additionally, the Vice President will seek, secure, and support strategic partnerships with major stakeholders in the region.

Germanna seeks a recognized leader with a track record of successfully engaging in the work of fundraising, coupled with strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills. Experience with real estate matters, board governance, and strategic partnerships are preferred qualifications. The selected candidate will ideally bring experience in an academic or non-profit setting as well as experience with capital campaigns. The position requires strategic capacity, superior communication skills, and the ability to forge external relationships in support of the institution. The Vice President for Community Engagement must be able to work with diverse colleagues, students, and community members and facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
