Gift and Estate Planning Officer

Boys Town is seeking an experienced Planned Giving Program Manager to develop and implement our planned giving program. This role involves building and managing relationships with current donors and potential planned giving prospects through various engagement activities to solicit their support.

Major Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit planned gifts (bequests, trusts, gift annuities).
  • Build relationships with financial advisors, estate planning professionals, and the legal community.
  • Maintain files and records on planned giving prospects/donors in the donor database.
  • Coordinate planned giving program activities and staff.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and Investments departments.
  • Assist in creating planned giving materials and promotional strategies.
  • Provide expertise and support to affiliate sites regarding planned gifts.
  • Oversee maintenance of master files and records on planned giving.
  • Assist or direct staff in planning and prioritizing work to meet planned giving goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of planned giving.
  • Understanding of tax laws related to charitable giving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and donor database management.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Resourceful team player able to respond to a changing environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years of legal or financial estate and gift planning experience, preferably within a complex not-for-profit environment.
  • Availability to travel extensively for donor calls.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and ability to pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check.
  • Ability to provide own transportation and meet auto insurance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
