JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Engagement Officer will be responsible for leading the integrated strategy and daily operations of external engagement, encompassing both fund development and communications functions. This position will serve on the executive leadership team, and manage a team of highly skilled communications and development experts.  The role requires working collaboratively with executive leadership to expand the organization’s reach and influence, in support of our strategic goals, and position the organization as a thought leader in our sector.  The Chief Engagement Officer will oversee all aspects of engagement, from fundraising efforts to communications initiatives, and will manage existing relationships, cultivate new partnerships, and devise strategies to diversify funding streams.  They will bring a well-rounded understanding of fundraising and communications strategy and best practices, with a proven track record of crafting and leading the successful implementation of a comprehensive fundraising and external engagement programs. They will have exceptional interpersonal and communications skills, thrive in a fast-paced environment, will be able to lead both strategy and execution, and are highly skilled at managing people and initiatives with confidence, gravitas, and efficacy.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & KEY OUTCOMES

The Chief Engagement Officer will report to and work closely with the CEO and will oversee all fundraising and communications activities of the organization from strategy development to implementation, solicitation, diversifying funding streams, and analysis. Priority areas of focus include stewarding relationships with current donors, securing grants and managing relationships, building new partnerships, increasing major giving and individual support, strategic oversight of grants, and in-kind contributions; familiarity with all fundraising tactics and revenue sources is desired.  Specifically, the Chief Engagement Officer will: 

    Develop and implement a comprehensive engagement strategy to achieve organizational goals of increasing organization funding streams, diversifying funders, positioning the organization as a thought leader, and engaging, building and supporting strategic partners and alumni. 

    Oversee the engagement program, setting measurable benchmarks and adapting strategies as needed and manage the departmental budget and strategy effectively within the integrated engagement framework to achieve agreed upon goals and outcomes.

    Incorporate communications and development expertise and activities for the purpose of implementing creative fundraising strategies that increase the organization's revenue, while also enhancing and building strong relationships and alignment with alumni, operating partners, and our broader network. 

    Secure, retain and grow revenue from all sources, including corporations, foundations, government grants, individuals, and events to secure cash contributions of $5+ million annually.

    Build digital fundraising and engagement strategies, integrating proactive storytelling, thought leadership positioning, and media inquiries. 

    Manage the company's online presence, including websites, blogs, and microsites. 

    Manage social media presence and strategies to engage the community, donors, government and other stakeholders.

    Spearhead efforts to grow a monthly giving program. Evaluate and refine current campaigns to optimize revenue potential and brand awareness.

    Lead internal communications across all channels to inform, inspire, and provoke action. 

    Oversee executive communications, manage special events, and promote employee engagement through a variety of channels and activities.

    Collaborate with the board of directors, providing regular updates on fundraising efforts and seeking their support and involvement.

    In collaboration with the leadership team lead crisis communication planning and response, including post-event management.

    Utilize data and analytics in Salesforce to measure the effectiveness of advancement efforts and make informed decisions for continuous improvement and Implement data-driven strategies to identify and cultivate potential donors.

    Develop metrics for analysis and strategy refinement that support thought leadership and leverage influence 

    Lead the engagement team, providing mentorship and fostering a high-performance culture.
