POSITION PURPOSE:

The Philanthropy Officer - Annual Giving  focuses on fostering relationships with annual and mid-level donors. This role focuses on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors who contribute on a yearly basis, ensuring a steady stream of funding to support the organization’s operations and programs. 

 

Reporting Relationships 

  • Reports to our  Director, Philanthropy 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Donor relationship management (70%): 

  • Manage an assigned pipeline of donors capable of giving between $1-$10k to cultivate, renew and upgrade current annual donors, all to foster long-term relationships.
    • Develop (alongside Director, Philanthropy) and execute stewardship plans, including thank-you letters, donor recognition gifts, and regular updates on organizational activities and successes.
    • Support the implementation of comprehensive annual giving campaigns, including direct mail, email, social media, and phone solicitation efforts.
  • Research and identify Major Gift prospects within our organization.
    • Can include utilizing research tools such as iWave and other platforms. 
    • Work with the Officer, Major Gifts to develop relationships with potential donors. 
  • Create (with the support of Marketing & Communications ) and edit donor communications including solicitation proposals, meeting requests, meeting follow-ups, presentations, acknowledgments, and letters.
  • Maintain complete and orderly records of donors in the CRM, ensuring regular donor communications.
  • Work with the Director, Philanthropy to understand funding priorities, campaigns, and projects to determine alignment with potential donors. 

 

Program Development  (10%):

  • Collaborate with the development team and organizational leadership to set annual goals and develop plans to achieve them.
  • Track and report on progress towards goals, adjusting strategies as needed to meet targets.
  • Analyze donor data to identify trends, opportunities for growth, and areas needing improvement.
  • Collaborate with other teams at the organization to develop compelling campaigns and cases for support. 
  • Strategize with development leadership on ways to renew or cultivate new donations and relationships.
  • Support the Director, Philanthropy & CDO to implement an annual giving strategy to grow our donor base and secure funding. 

 

Database Management (10%):

  • Maintain accurate donor records in Salesforce.
  • Keep track of donor interaction history to personalize communications and stewardship.
  • Work with the CRM team to ensure reports are being pulled to properly analyze data and inform donor fundraising strategies.

 

Internal Meetings (5%):

  • Development/team meetings as needed 
  • Weekly Philanthropy team meeting 
  • Weekly meeting 1-1 with Director, Philanthropy 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • EDUCATION: BACHELOR’S DEGREE or  acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • RELATED EXPERIENCE: Minimum  2-3  years experience with a proven success record in annual fundraising or other non-profit donor relations experience.
  • Experience developing donor relationships, from identification to stewardship.
  • Experience managing a caseload of active gift prospects and implementing strategies for solicitation of these prospects.
  • Demonstrated experience in consistently meeting deadlines/deliverables and standards for quality work.
  • Experience using a CRM system. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
  • A passion for the environment!
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Proficient in prospect research, utilizing platforms such as iWave. 
  • Experience in direct mail is an asset.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

COMPENSATION:  typical starting range is $65,000 to $85,000 USD which will be based on skills and experience. Annual performance increase may be available but not guaranteed.
