The Vice President, Fund Development plays a critical role in advancing the mission of the U.S. Green Building Council by leading and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies. Reporting directly to the Chief Growth Officer (CGO), this position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fundraising activities, funder relations, and revenue generation efforts.

 

This role can be performed on a hybrid basis in the Washington, DC, area or remote within the United States.

 

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the CGO and executive team to develop and execute fundraising strategies aligned with the organization’s strategic plan
  • Develop and maintain relationships with major donors, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources in the U.S. and internationally
  • Implement stewardship initiatives to ensure funder retention and engagement
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to diversify revenue streams, including major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants, events, and online fundraising campaigns
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of fundraising campaigns, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and fundraising goals
  • Develop and manage the fundraising budget, monitoring expenses and revenue projections to achieve financial targets
  • Utilize data analytics and fundraising metrics to evaluate performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize fundraising efforts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate fundraising initiatives with marketing, communications, and programmatic activities. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to promote awareness of USGBC and its impact
  • Oversee deliverable tracking and fulfillment of funder reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with relevant fundraising regulations, ethical standards, and best practices in philanthropy

    Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 15+ years’ experience in a nonprofit organization, with a proven track record in development, including managing diverse funder relationships and successfully expanding funder bases in the U.S. and internationally.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal oversight as well as collaboratively within a team, effectively engaging with individuals across various levels of the organization and externally
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, capable of engaging a broad range of funders and fostering long-term relationships with both clarity and persuasion, underpinned by strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising strategy development and implementation, including achievement of fundraising goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including empathy and respect for others, engaging in active listening, and building effective working relationships
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to responsibly manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously and delivering expected outcomes
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to think systematically and plan, excellent with meeting deadlines
