Created in 2010, Paris Brain Institute is a leading scientific and medical research center located in Paris at the heart of Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Europe's largest hub for nervous system diseases. Its innovative model brings together patients, doctors, researchers, and entrepreneurs with a common goal: to understand the brain and accelerate the discovery of new treatments for nervous system diseases. The Institute brings together 900 international experts organized in 26 research teams, eleven cutting-edge technological platforms, a clinical investigation center, a training organization, and more than 2,000m² dedicated to incubating start-ups. It is based on the association of a joint research unit and a private foundation recognized as being in the public interest. 

 

Paris Brain Institute America (PBIA) is a newly formed 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing neuroscience research. Our mission is to raise public awareness and secure crucial financial support for Paris Brain Institute, driving advancements in the field of neuroscience and shaping a brighter future for patients everywhere. One of the main goals of Paris Brain Institute America is to support the international development of Paris Brain Institute and enhance collaborations with scientists and institutions across the Americas.

 

We are seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead and help shape our organization. 

 

Position Summary:

As the first Executive Director of PBIA, you will play a pivotal role in leading and shaping the entire organization. This role requires you to establish and oversee essential processes, procedures, and networks, providing the strategic direction necessary to ensure PBIA's growth and success in achieving its mission.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

    Identify and engage with potential new board members to strengthen the organization. Drive the development of the organization's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with its mission.

 

Development and Fundraising:

    Lead the development of PBIA's fundraising strategy in collaboration with the Board Members and Paris Brain Institute’s Development team in Paris.  Implement the fundraising strategy including prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation; organization of cultivation and fundraising events; be responsible for a portfolio of major donors. 

 

Finance and Operations:

    Manage financial matters, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and risk management, and ensure all required information is clearly and in a timely manner, handed over to the third-party accountant.

 

Communication and Outreach:

    Develop and execute a comprehensive communication and outreach strategy. Lead press and communications initiatives to promote PBIA's mission. Oversee the update of PBIA's website and the creation of communication materials. Manage relationships with existing partners and develop new ones.

 

Administration:

    Coordinate Board Meetings, serve as the liaison with the Board. Structure the organization's database and other administrative functions. Manage day-to-day operations. 

 

Qualifications:

    Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written including the ability to articulate (verbally and written) complex medical research and scientific information for multiple audiences and donors. Ability to develop fundraising strategies and plans that integrate into PBIA’s mission, priorities and goals both independently and collaboratively with Paris Brain Institute’s Development Team.  Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently and effectively. Takes responsibility and initiative to set and meet the goals, objectives and obligations while representing the mission, vision and values of PBIA.  Proven record of engagement with high net-worth donors.  Demonstrated experience in grant proposal and report writing. Strong commitment to PBIA's mission and success. Experience working with donor databases.  Proficiency in French or Spanish would be a plus.

 

Work Environment:

    Remote work with regular meetings in New York, United States. Occasional trips to Paris (France).  Occasional trips in the United States. 

 

Physical Demands:

    Position regularly requires sitting and standing for varying periods.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    Full-time. Flexible hours to accommodate regular meetings with the Paris office. Participation in donor events, including some evenings and weekends.
