The University of Maryland seeks an experienced, creative, and
forward-thinking leader to serve as Chief Development Officer
(CDO). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a
dynamic advancement team currently in the silent phase of a
10-figure campaign. Reporting to the Executive Director of
Development in University Relations with a dotted line to the Dean,
the CDO is the chief fundraiser for their assigned unit.
Carrying a portfolio of approximately 80 prospects and current
donors, they are responsible for securing major and principal gifts
to advance the Dean’s priorities for the College.
The CDO develops and implements prospect strategies from
identification through cultivation, solicitation, documented
commitments and stewardship. The Chief Development Officer will
have a proven track record as a successful hands-on fundraiser who
is skilled at closing six and seven-figure gifts from individuals
and occasionally corporations and foundations. They will carry an
active portfolio of prospects with prospect visit goals of 8-12 per
month and 12-15 major gift solicitations over the course of a year.
The Chief Development Officer will work closely with
colleagues in Gift Planning, Corporate and Foundation Relations,
Annual Giving, Leadership Annual Giving, Regional Giving, Donor
Relations and Stewardship, and the Alumni Association to build
strategies for donor engagement and secure gifts on behalf of the
College. This position will require the availability and
willingness to work evenings, weekends, and outside standard
business hours as needed. Local and some national travel is
required. We have openings in the following units, and
