The Foundation for Self Leadership, an 11-year-old nonprofit with an international character based in the US and operating virtually in the space of “emotional/relational health, healing and harmony,” invites nominations and applications for the post of Associate Director, Development. We are searching for a seasoned, skilled development professional to join our team and lead the fundraising and friend-raising effort.

Virtual interviews will proceed on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.

The paid remote position, to start in early Fall 2024, will be initially for 15 hours a week, expandable and for a starting stipend equivalent to $45 USD per hour.

The new team member, working closely with the Executive Director and collaborating with functional teams, will be responsible for a number of critical areas:

  • STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT - Establish and monitor the Foundation’s current development goals, programs, and implementation plan, maintaining their full alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities and helping to refine them in the context of the history and culture of giving within the Foundation’s community.
  • DEVELOPMENT OPERATION/COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS – Lead the efforts to design and implement giving campaigns and annual appeals; to manage existing giving programs (and grow them appropriately); to develop and monitor prospecting, cultivation and stewardship activities; and craft related development collaterals that are consistent (or can help refine) overall messaging and brand.
  • BEYOND INDIVIDUAL GIVING – Identify pertinent funding programs and lead the effort to prepare grant applications in support of key priorities of the Foundation.
  • DEVELOPMENT INFRASTRUCTURE – Oversee the tracking of, and reporting on, donor data and provide guidance to individual(s) involved in populating the donor database and giving platforms (the Foundation uses Little Green Light and iATS respectively) and manage relevant subscriptions to these platforms.
  • TEAM LEADERHIP – Provide guidance and oversight to staff and volunteer associates reporting on the Development team.

The Foundation operates with a lean staff (fewer than 3 FTE) with no full-time positions. As such, all team associates, including the individual in this post, manage a combination of macro- and some micro-level responsibilities.

The ideal candidate brings to the Foundation proven knowledge, experience, accomplishments, and disposition requisite for success in this role. We are looking for relevant experiences in leadership and management as well as a track record for achieving results; demonstrated qualities of collaborative and creative leadership; community-building abilities; emotional maturity and a commitment to personal growth; a can-do attitude; a global outlook; and a passion for making a positive difference in people’s lives (further details below). It is further anticipated that the selected candidate would seek to gain deeper understanding of, and personal experience with, the IFS model over time.

Specific selection criteria considered applicable include:

  • Development-related skills, experience, and record of success, including strong written and verbal communications, knowledge of donor databases, and competency in applying standard practices of fundraising.
  • Professional qualities, such as integrity, respect, confidentiality, innovation, teamwork, self-initiative, attention to detail, and desire to learn—not just contribute.
  • High comfort with the digital world, virtual work, and key computer platforms (such as Microsoft and Google suites).
  • Ability to effectively lead a team and be part of a team, design and manage processes, and support functional teams.
  • Desirable personal qualities, such as compassion, patience, persistence and endurance. It is important for our associates to be aligned with the ideals of Self-leadership and the Foundation’s values and vision.

The Foundation always seeks to ensure that its teams represent a broad range of lived and professional experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.

HOW TO APPLY – If qualified, please send a brief email to Outreach@FoundationIFS.org, with “Associate Director for Development” in the Subject line and attach a document that includes in the same PDF attached file: (1) a résumé; (2) a cover letter describing your interest, your relevant experience, and why you believe you would be a good fit for the role; and (3) names/contact for three professional references.

Walking the talk of Self leadership, the Foundation endeavors to have our staff, board, and constituents with whom we engage reflect a broad range of professional and personal backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences.
