The Executive Director of University Corporate Relations (EDUCR) is responsible for the leadership, management, planning, full implementation, and oversight of the Office of Corporate Relations, charged with being the senior corporate relations officer of the university for business and industry groups. The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the University of Maryland’s ties to industry and community partners, and by extension, to help enhance the breadth and depth of corporate engagement at UMD.

The University of Maryland is one of the nation’s leading research and higher-education institutions. We envision a leader who can build a program that offers a single gateway for companies to maximize their relationship with the University. In collaboration with the UMD Office of the Vice President for Research, the EDUCR is expected to work collaboratively and in consultation with the Associate Vice President for Research Development to identify opportunities across campus, create, and implement a comprehensive plan aimed at growing the capacity for strategic corporate philanthropy at UMD.

The EDUCR will be tasked with driving University wide corporate philanthropy and comprehensive industry leadership efforts by engaging the University community, including school and college based corporate and foundation relations officers, the Alumni Association, University Athletics, and other stakeholder to help companies identify and access the University’s resources in research discoveries, new technologies, high-tech facilities, student and alumni talent, and continuing education programs.

The EDUCR will have the opportunity to build a team, including a Senior Director of Corporate Relations and a Program Director. As the Office continues to grow, there will be opportunities to engage in Foundation Relations more proactively but initially will be expected to work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Strategic Foundation Relations for Research Initiatives to ensure a cohesive strategy is implemented across campus.

The EDUCR will be tasked with building and managing a portfolio of 15 – 20 campus-wide corporate partners and will represent the University at corporate engagements and events. Working collaboratively with the office of Principal Gifts, this position will participate in strategy around Presidential engagement with C-Suite executives and other corporate leaders. This position requires the availability to work evenings and weekends. Travel is required approximately 60%, with most of that taking place in the immediate DMV area.
