BRIEF JOB SUMMARY

The Development Associate (DA) provides professional support to assigned colleges, schools, and units (CSUs) to help meet fundraising objectives. Working directly with the Senior/Executive Directors of Development (S/EDOD) and front-line development officers, the DA assists with the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects. The DA works collaboratively across UIC Advancement and assigned CSUs. They serve as a front-line representative of the university, interacting with volunteers, donors, and key leadership. This position serves as a learning and training experience, structured to grow the talent of the DA such that after two to three years, they are prepared to be competitive as candidates for assistant director of development positions with leadership annual gift and low-end major gift portfolios.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates, organizes, and executes fundraising activities to ensure development officers maintain an outward focus on building relationships, advancing giving strategies, closing gifts, and meeting annual fundraising goals.
  • Assists with drafting, editing and proof-reading correspondence, reports, proposals, and briefings to be used in the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors, prospects, and alumni.
  • Arranges meetings with faculty, staff, donors, prospects, and others as requested by the S/EDOD and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement (AVC).
  • Gathers, researches, synthesizes, and analyzes data and information to prepare concise, logical summaries and reports across a variety of topics that may be presented to donors, prospects, or internal teams.
  • Utilizes the constituent tracking database (TED) to look up and ensure accuracy of donor and alumni information, request research, pull canned reports, update prospect plans, etc.
  • Assists with the gift process by tracking solicitations, gift agreements, completing gift transmittal forms for gifts received, forwarding gifts, and completed forms for gift processing and ensuring revenue is associated with ask in TED.
  • Participates in portfolio reviews with fundraisers and the Research and Prospect Development teams. Responsible for ensuring portfolios are updated and accurate.
  • In partnership with the central Stewardship team, responsible for reviewing weekly gift report and ensuring donors at leadership and major gift levels are thanked.
  • Serves as liaison between the S/EDODs and OVCA central leads.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent.
  • One year of professional work experience.
  • Commitment to mission of UIC.
  • Understanding and practice of a high standard of confidentiality and ethical information collection.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference for work experience in development/fundraising environment.
