The Managing Director, Alumni Engagement and Outreach leads a comprehensive strategy for the Alumni Association’s engagement and outreach efforts in engaging the university’s 414,000 alumni. This is done through a variety of programs, events, and online initiatives. Through high-level and diverse engagement, the Alumni Association instills lifelong participation and philanthropic affinity to Maryland. In accordance with the association’s new strategic plan, Forever Fearless, the Managing Director will look to fulfill the following priorities for alums:
- Empower Terps to live a life of meaning and impact
- Educate and activate alums to serve our communities and solve the grand challenges of our time
- Engage every student from day one
- Foster Terrapin pride
Along with the Senior Executive Director, the Managing Director is the visible face of the association with university staff and alumni in Maryland and beyond.
The Managing Director serves as a liaison with the Alumni Association Board of governors (BOG) governance committee, serving as the lead recruiter for at-large members, bylaw reviews, and policy updates.
The Managing Director has 4 major units reporting to them. These units include:
- Career/Professional Programming and Lifelong Learning
- Volunteerism and Terp Networks
- Student and Recent Grad Engagement
- Special Events
The Managing Director will evaluate outreach efforts for effectiveness, research trends in alumni association volunteer programs, and develop and implement new strategies and programs for recruitment and sustained engagement of alumni volunteers. In cooperation with the Senior Executive Director, and the entire outreach team, the Managing Director will establish goals and objectives for staff and volunteers. They will train, coach, and provide guidance to staff and volunteers to achieve mutually agreed-upon goals. Additionally, the Managing Director is responsible for the implementation of volunteer leadership training programs.
Additionally, the Managing Director will be the lead staff responsible for Association metrics and reporting across the division of University Relations. This includes creating and refining reports and synthesizing data across multiple platforms to develop actionable insights that will enhance engagement, membership, and fundraising strategies.
Finally, the Managing Director will serve as the main point of contact for any engagement technology updates and changes (mentoring platforms, alumni directory) and be responsible for researching new technology that will enhance the ability to connect to our alumni.
