Position Focus:
The Director of Data Services & Analytics is a member of the Alumni Engagement and Development (AED) team, responsible for overseeing and providing in-depth data analytics, ad hoc revenue and constituent reporting, data downloads, complex query selections, and interactive revenue and constituent data visualizations, and providing the business expertise for reporting methods, revenue data, and coding structures in Yale University's Blackbaud content management system of record (Hopper). The Director serves as a key resource for data integrity and data integration projects and assists in the development of processes for and maintenance of constituent data in Hopper. The Director reports to the Executive Director for Advancement Services and is an integral part of the fundraising efforts at the School and within the AED team.
This is an opportunity to lead a critical area of engagement for a top law school with a large, active alumni base and a strong tradition of philanthropy. Joining at the outset of the public phase of the Yale University campaign, For Humanity, the director will serve as a catalyst for the growth of YLS' philanthropic constituency, enhanced engagement with its graduates, and an increase in philanthropic support.
The Director:
Oversees and implements best practices for the management, use, and governance of Hopper, establishing AED policies and procedures—and where appropriate utilizing Yale University policies and procedures—for quality assurance, wholistic data management, data integrity, and self-service reporting and analytics.
Supports AED through complex reporting and analysis of fundraising results and alumni activities, utilizing database systems and other analytical tools.
Extracts revenue and constituent data including but not limited to standard fundraising reports, fundraising analyses, prospect activity, appeals, invitation lists, mailing lists, print and digital publication distribution lists, donor lists, and pledge reminders.
Assesses, recommends, and implements strategy for managing all AED data needs-- including prospect management, stewardship, and alumni and donor biographical data--in Hopper.
Develops and implements a strategy and plan to maximize the effective use and integration of Hopper, Salesforce, and The Courtyard, Yale Law's School's alumni mentoring platform.
Develops and maintains a process manual for all data management and reporting within AED.
Develops business intelligence reports and dashboards using data visualization for giving and constituent data.
Prepares presentations for school administrators, volunteers and senior AED leaders.
Develops and implements processes for ensuring data accuracy and integrity for all constituents in Hopper.
In partnership with Executive Director, develops personal annual performance goals and performance metrics and provides regular feedback regarding performance against individual goals.
Manages and mentors one business analyst.
Develops and implements a plan and ongoing process for training all AED staff (and onboarding new staff) in the use of Hopper.
Serves as a liaison to Yale Law School and Yale University IT offices, and central Operations teams within AED office.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative, innovative, strategic, and creative problem-solver and excellent manager with a demonstrated track record of building/supporting a data-driven fundraising culture and producing timely, accurate reports in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. This individual will create and execute reporting, analyses, data entry, data integration, and technology strategies that build on the University and School's strong tradition of philanthropic giving and committed alumni base.

Essential Duties:
1. Develops the initial project charter and clarification of the project scope, requirements, measurable outcomes, and project deliverables. 2. Works with respective process owners and using the business analytics, prepares the associated business case. Documents the “as is†and “to be†business processes using standard process modeling tools and process improvement methodologies. 3. Conducts thorough business case and external customer value analysis to determine selection, prioritization positioning and approach for broadest range of potential solutions (e.g., outsourcing, process improvements, and technology solutions). 4. Communicates compelling and concise analysis to enable business owners to make well informed decisions regarding options for problem resolution and opportunity realization. Reviews system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested system change is possible within existing system and is within the scope of the current project definition. 5. Gathers, compiles, and produces relevant business analytics on departmental performances including production of Performance Metrics and opinions/suggestions for improvement opportunities. 6. Develops and delivers quality analysis, reporting and presentation materials. 7. Responsible for requirements prioritization and solution risk analysis. 8. Fully integrates baseline and metrics tracking into initiative planning and execution for optimal results. 9. Designs, plans, communicates and executes the departmental readiness plan. 10. Oversees, develops, facilitates and delivers training plans. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in business, technology or related field and six years of related work experience in analysis of business needs and development of related business systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Ability to work in a team-based environment, and have the ability communicate with technical and non-technical staff, volunteers, and faculty. Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate direct reports and team members.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Expert-level, demonstrable experience in developing reports and complex queries for financial reconciliation, prospect engagement, extracting data for mail and email fundraising programs, and reporting metrics and ROI for fundraising initiatives.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Excellent presentation and organizational skills. Ability to set and meet aggressive deadlines and be responsive to planned and ad hoc requests.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Strong computer software skills including MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, databases and networked information systems.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Excellent analytic skills to ensure data-driven results. Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Proven experience in a complex, matrixed university setting working with alumni and donors. Familiarity with Yale University. Proven experience working with a BI platform (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.)
