Westminster College invites nominations and applications for its next Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Established in 1852, Westminster College is a private four-year liberal arts institution with 173 years of experience in providing an outstanding place to learn, teach, work, and live. Located in rural New Wilmington, Pennsylvania—one hour north of Pittsburgh and one hour southeast of Cleveland—Westminster was among the first integrated and coeducational colleges in the nation to offer curricula in the arts and sciences. The College’s mission is to help our more than 1,100 students develop the competencies, commitments, and characteristics that distinguish human beings at their best. The College has been recognized for its outstanding graduation rates, civic engagement, undergraduate research in all fields, and women in STEM; the College has a strong tradition of exceptional performance in NCAA Division III athletics and in the arts.
The College seeks a creative and strategic leader to build upon the successful work of this division, which ended fiscal year 2024 with a record level of donations. Reporting directly to the president, the vice president provides oversight for the offices of institutional advancement and alumni engagement, serving on the President’s senior leadership team and playing a critical role in shaping the College’s future. The vice president will collaborate with the president and the division’s staff to foster positive relationships with key stakeholders. The vice president will provide the strategic direction necessary to achieve fund raising and alumni engagement goals that help provide the College with the resources needed to fulfill its mission.
Successful leadership in the advancement field, preferably in higher education, with a record of success from engaging existing and new donors and supervising a talented team, is desired. Experience working with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge CRM software is required. Candidates must possess the interpersonal and collaborative skills necessary to inspire philanthropic and volunteer engagement and the ability to conceptualize and implement a data-informed vision and strategy for the division. They should have strong presentation and writing skills, enabling success as a persuasive communicator. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is highly desirable.
Interested applicants should submit a letter of candidacy responding to the opportunities and desired attributes, a complete resume, and the names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of three references, none of whom will be contacted without the formal permission of the candidate. Materials should be submitted electronically to Mr. Kenneth J. Romig, Vice President for Finance and Management Services, at VPIAsearch@westminster.edu by November 1, 2024, for the most favorable consideration, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
