Executive Director of Advancement for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences/Executive Director of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science Foundation
William & Mary
Gloucester Point, Virginia
The Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and the Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences (BSCMS) at William & Mary are internationally recognized as leaders in coastal and marine science research, education, and advisory services. VIMS, located in Gloucester Point, Virginia, is committed to conducting vital research in coastal and estuarine science, providing exceptional educational opportunities, and offering expert advisory services to policymakers, industry, and the public. The Institute’s mission emphasizes a strong focus on driving solutions to some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
With a transformative $100 million naming gift in July 2024, the newly renamed Batten School of Coastal and Marine Sciences is set to expand its impact significantly. This historic investment is the largest ever to a school dedicated to coastal and marine sciences and will enhance the Institute’s capacity to innovate and lead in addressing global environmental challenges.
The Opportunity
The Executive Director of Advancement will play a critical role in shaping the future of VIMS and BSCMS during a period of unprecedented growth and opportunity.
As the chief fundraiser and a strategic leader, the Executive Director will leverage the School’s recent $100 million naming gift by working closely with the VIMS Director/BSCMS Dean, the Assistant Vice President of Development for Schools and Academic Initiatives at William & Mary, and other key stakeholders. The goal is to build a sustainable pipeline of philanthropic support from alumni, individuals, corporations, and foundations to ensure the long-term success of the Institute’s mission.
This role also includes serving as the Executive Director of the VIMS Foundation, where the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in managing Foundation Board activities and developing innovative fundraising strategies.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic professional with a passion for the environment to drive transformative change at one of the nation’s leading institutions dedicated to coastal and marine sciences.
