Northern Michigan University is seeking applications for a Development Officer. The position plans and executes strategies for securing philanthropic commitments on behalf of Northern Michigan University. Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards major gift prospects. Researches and prepares oral and written presentations for major gift prospects. Serves as the liaison/coordinator for college and departmental fundraising efforts. Responsible for maintaining a portfolio of major gift prospects ranging in size from 150-200. Identifies and engages volunteers, alumni, staff and faculty in the fundraising process. Utilizes a prospect management tracking system. Organizes special events as relates to major gift prospects. Travel is required.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. Three years' work experience in higher education fundraising, preferably as a development officer, or in a related position such as annual giving or donor relations and stewardship or comparable experience in non-profit fundraising, marketing/communication and public relations, university admissions, banking or corporate sales work. Fundraising experience that includes identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors.

Required knowledge/skills/abilities: Ability to develop and implement successful engagement strategies that result in major gifts of $25K and above from diverse constituencies, backgrounds, cultures, religions, and abilities. Ability to travel extensively. Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, oral and written communication skills and ability to give presentations. Proficiency in prospect management software systems. Excellent time management, flexibility, tact, creativity, approachability and responsiveness.

The schedule is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.

The targeted salary range is $71,120-$80,000.
