The ALS Association is the only nationally affiliated not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to ALS. The mission of the ALS Association is to find the cause of the disease and discover a cure through global, cutting-edge research. The ALS Association empowers people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and their families to live fuller lives by providing compassionate care and support.
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Vice President, the Senior Director will develop and implement fundraising strategies for major and planned gifts in support of the ALS Association’s strategic priorities and mission. The Senior Director will manage a team of gift officers and carry a portfolio of approximately 30 leadership supporters at the $25,000 and above level. Utilizing relationship management strategies, this position will increase revenue and build a pipeline of major and planned donors for sustainable revenue. The Senior Director is a critical partner to field-based leadership and development staff, building donor investment strategies together with gift officers and relationship managers, and supporting the execution of these strategies to secure support. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic professional with strong leadership skills, relationship management and communication experience, and is committed to fundraising for positive change.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staff Manager:
- Develop and manage a team of dedicated and driven fundraisers
- Assure gift officers remain focused and accountable to revenue goals and strategies
- Use proactive communication techniques to motivate, mentor, problem-solve and provide feedback
- Model adaptability and coach the team to work in a transformational environment with agile thinking and innovative problem-solving
Donor Development:
- Utilize moves management to build intentional relationships and thoughtful strategic plans for each supporter
- Provide engagement and funding opportunities that align with donors’ values and interests
- Secure gifts through active solicitation – The Ask
- Provide prompt, personal, and ongoing donor stewardship
- Maintain contact records in Salesforce and update benchmarking reports
- Collaborate with Vice President on fundraising strategies and goals
Revenue Goals:
- Meet and exceed annual revenue goals by closing strategic gifts from supporters, and proactively managing gift officers

- Work both independently and collaboratively to cultivate relationships with staff partners, donors, volunteers, and the ALS community.
- Maintain an attitude of abundance, persistence, and urgency.
- Work with gratitude and relentless optimism to actively contribute to a culture of philanthropy.
Mission:
- We are committed to making ALS a livable disease and finding a cure. Must maintain up-to-date knowledge of mission related information on research, advocacy, and care services provided by the Association to inspire giving.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university required
- Seven (7) or more years of major gift experience or a related field
- A self-starter with outstanding communication skills
- Ability to successfully engage with a diverse staff and range of donors, volunteers, and community members
- Collaboration skills required to partner with leadership staff and volunteers and field Development colleagues involved in the achievement of revenue goals.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills
- Commitment to equity and inclusion with an inherent drive to work and collaborate with diverse populations
- Ability to work with flexibility in a dynamic team environment and embrace organizational change
- Commitment to learn and utilize new technologies to improve efficiency and implement strategy
- Proven track record of closing gifts and meeting fundraising goals
- Possess integrity, maturity and ethical awareness; ability to handle sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality.
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The ALS Association's pay range for this position is $128,000 to $134,213.50 annually.
The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties/requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation. Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.
The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance. The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association.
