Organization Description
Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation (AMCCF) is a public charity established by the Alterra Mountain Company to support and enrich the mountain communities where it operates. Alterra Mountain Company is a family of iconic year-round destinations, the world’s largest heli-ski operation, and Ikon Pass – the premier ski and snowboard season pass offering access to more than 50 iconic mountain destinations around the world. Headquartered in Denver, Colorado and born out of a shared love of the mountains and adventure, the company has brought together some of the world’s most aspirational brands, including: Steamboat and Winter Park in Colorado; Stratton Mountain and Sugarbush Resort in Vermont; Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia; Tremblant in Quebec and Blue Mountain in Ontario, Canada; Crystal Mountain in Washington; Schweitzer in Idaho; Deer Valley Resort and Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah; and CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures and Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing in British Columbia.
Founded in 2021 in response to needs that arose during the pandemic, Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation was established to provide financial support to Alterra Mountain Company communities. The Foundation has provided more than $1M in emergency relief and hardship assistance since its inception.
As it moves into its fourth year, AMCCF aims to expand its impact and solidify mountain community mental health as a core focus while developing a comprehensive strategy for new programs and partnerships to further enhance its impact. The Foundation’s current initiatives include:
- Mountain Community Screenings: Grants to support screening events of “The Paradise Paradox” to foster dialogue about mental health challenges in our mountain communities.
- Specialized Psychotherapies: Grants to support ski patrollers and heli guides who seek evidence-based trauma treatment as a result of their regular exposure to potentially traumatic incidents in their roles as resort first responders.
- Behavioral Health Access: Facilitated convenings of partners to energize community efforts to improve local mental healthcare systems, provide opportunities to leverage resources, and encourage collaboration.
- Mental Health Toolkit: Resources for mountain communities on topics including suicide prevention, substance abuse, experienced trauma, grief, sexual consent, and homesickness.
- Emergency Relief and Hardship Assistance: Grants for individuals and nonprofits in Alterra’s communities seeking assistance due to an emergency, disaster, crisis, or trauma.
