Job Description:

 

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Individual Giving Officer will help  develop strategies and drive activity to support fundraising targets for general operating and restricted giving, as well as be an integral part of the work in stewarding and growing the College's constituencies and creating a broader base of support. Specifically, the Individual Giving Officer will be responsible for a portfolio of 150-200 constituents, and will qualify prospects and participate in visits, cultivation events, and solicitations, taking charge of every aspect of engagement and stewardship for the portfolio.

 

SALARY: $75,000 - $85,000 Commensurate with experience

Position is governed by the APA collective bargaining agreement

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Leadership and planned gift fundraising

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward leadership and planned giving donors to the College.
  • Maintain a record of activity with prospects in Salesforce.
  • Steward a portfolio of upwards of 150+ qualified prospect households; travel to complete prospect visits, the number of which is to be determined annually by the supervisor.
  • Prepare proposals for gift solicitations that may include leadership, planned, and annual fund gift components.
  • Focus on securing support for the College's strategic priorities, including a campaign to build the MassArt Foundation Endowment. 
  • Develop strong relationships with prospective donors, moving them through the cultivation cycle from identification through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Work with Fundraising Events to organize and execute two annual Longwood Society events: one to recognize current members and one aimed at recruiting new members.

Advancement Strategy

  • Contribute prospect recommendations for the Director of Individual Giving, Associate Vice President of Advancement, the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, as well as other members of senior management and the faculty as necessary and arrange appointments on their behalf.
  • Prepare briefing materials in advance of these visits.
  • Attend and participate in standing departmental meetings.
  • Provide regular reports on portfolio performance, planned giving pipeline, and event outcomes with a close eye on advancing donors up the individual giving pipeline.
  • Work closely with prospect research to regularly assess everyday donors for potential leadership and planned giving prospects. 
  • Collaborate with the Alumni Relations and Advancement Communications team to develop and execute planned giving campaigns.
  • Partner with Advancement Communications to develop planned giving stories for college-wide communications and publications. 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Promote and uphold MassArt's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all Advancement activities.
  • Stay abreast of trends and best practices in major gift fundraising and donor engagement, incorporating them into the institution's strategies.
  • Must have the ability to attend evening and weekend events as required

    Requirements:

    REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive fundraising experience, with a strong emphasis on leadership gifts and planned giving.
  • Proven track record of soliciting and securing 5-figure gifts.
  • Proven track record in managing donor relationships and a large portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to receive and process large amounts of information from multiple sources

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience fundraising for an educational institution.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, build effective relationships, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with donors with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • A willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, donor databases, and wealth screening tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and inspire confidence among diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to MassArt's mission and values, with a demonstrated ability to further diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Familiarity with prospect research tools and donor management systems.
  • A deep appreciation for and ability to articulate the educational mission and aspirations of Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
