The New York Philharmonic connects with millions of music lovers each season through live concerts in New York and around the world, as well as broadcasts, recordings, and education programs. After returning to a transformed David Geffen Hall in October 2022, the Orchestra has a renewed commitment to building on a 180-year-old legacy of excellence by serving as a platform for today’s creators and connecting with our communities. In February 2023 the New York Philharmonic announced the appointment of Gustavo Dudamel as the Orchestra’s next maestro, to begin as Music and Artistic Director in 2026–27, after serving as Music Director Designate in 2025–26.
The New York Philharmonic seeks a Manager, Government Relations to serve as a key member of the institutional giving team, raising funds from government agencies in support of the Philharmonic’s artistic and educational programs, community engagement activities, media initiatives, and special projects. This is a full-time, non-exempt position within the Development department that reports to the Director of Institutional & Corporate Giving.
Responsibilities include:
- Support implementation of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of current and prospective government donors to achieve revenue goals
- Manage a portfolio of government agencies throughout the grant lifecycle, including writing government grant reports and proposals
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, elected officials, and their staff at the local, state, and federal levels
- Assess programmatic data, community needs, and funding opportunities to align prospective funders with the Philharmonic’s strategic priorities and initiatives
- Serve as a subject matter expert on government affairs issues in the cultural sector, providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders as needed
- Perform other special projects as requested by the Director of Institutional and Corporate Giving
- Support Patron Lounge activities including staffing, scheduling, and logistical preparation as required
- Represent the Philharmonic as needed, including assistance with special events as needed

- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Requirements:
The candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of three years of development experience, with direct knowledge of the government solicitation and stewardship process. The candidate will have a proven track record of maintaining effective relationships with donors, strong writing and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects within a fast-paced work environment. Strong computer skills, including Word and Excel, and experience with a fundraising database are essential, Tessitura a plus. Experience at an arts organization and knowledge of classical music preferred. Occasional evenings or weekends required to attend performances and/or cultivation events.
