Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) seeks an ambitious and strategic fundraiser to serve as the inaugural Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations – Oregon (Director). WittKieffer is honored to support WesternU on this search and is now accepting applications and nominations.
WesternU's main campus in Pomona, CA, was founded in 1977 and they opened a second campus in Lebanon, OR, in 2011. As the largest graduate health professions university in the nation, WesternU is dedicated to producing healthcare professionals and biomedical knowledge that enhance the quality of life in communities, particularly for rural, inner-city, and underserved populations. The institution's commitment to research, science, and biotechnology is reflected in its eight colleges, which include the College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Graduate Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Dental Medicine, Optometry, and Podiatric Medicine. With an enrollment of over 3,800 students and more than 1,100 dedicated faculty and staff, WesternU fosters a humanistic approach to healthcare, integrating hands-on experience with compassion and intellect.
To support the ongoing growth of the Lebanon campus, WesternU seeks an inaugural Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations – Oregon to advance significant institutional donor partnerships in the state. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development – Oregon, this position focuses on cultivating relationships with foundations and institutional donors, particularly those interested in supporting the development of rural communities across Oregon. The Director will align project ideas with donor interests, leveraging the growing opportunities in agriculture, tourism, food processing, manufacturing, and emerging sectors like aerospace and high technology while also emphasizing these communities' cultural and social importance.
This position is based on the campus in Lebanon, Oregon. It is anticipated that the individual will have the flexibility for a hybrid schedule, with at least 1-2 days per week in the Lebanon office. Thus, the candidate will be able to live within regular driving distance, including within the greater Portland, Oregon, area.
The successful Director candidate will:
Identify and study local, regional, and national foundations to understand their goals, funding objectives, proposal guidelines, process, and deadlines. Build and manage an active portfolio of prospective foundation partners that are regularly reviewed and engaged. Work proactively and collaboratively with individual faculty, groups of faculty, and/or college/unit diversity programs to identify priorities and project ideas, particularly in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and align these with foundation opportunities. Report regularly on progress towards goals, metrics, and action plans set forth by the supervisor, with the expectation that they are met annually. Using the university's prospect management systems, ensure effective records maintenance, including timely filing of requests for prospect assignments, prospect strategies, and contact reports.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in foundation relations, business development, or another related field. A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred but not required.
The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $125,000.
