Director of Development

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, such as Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or Nonprofit Management. 5-7 years of experience in fundraising, development, or related roles, ideally within the non-profit sector. Proven track record in raising funds through diverse channels, including major gifts, planned giving, grants, corporate sponsorships, and annual campaigns. Experience with grant writing and grant management, particularly with government, foundation, and corporate grants. Project and event management experience, particularly in managing fundraising campaigns and special events.

Strong computer literacy skills in MS Office including Word, Excel, and knowledge of MS PowerPoint required. Must successfully complete all pre-screening requirements required by regulation. Must possess a valid New York State drivers’ license and have ability to travel to all counties (Albany, Fulton, and Schoharie) as needed using own vehicle.

Position Summary: The Director of Development is responsible for creating, implementing, and managing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support the mission and sustainability of our organization. This role leads the agency's fundraising efforts, including major gifts, annual campaigns, corporate sponsorships, grant proposals, and special events. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advancing human services, a proven track record in fundraising, and the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with donors, community partners, and board members.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt position, M-F

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fundraising Strategy and Execution

 Develop and execute a fundraising plan to achieve annual revenue goals, including major giving, planned giving, foundation grants, and corporate sponsorships.

 Lead the annual fundraising campaign, major donor cultivation, and special event planning and execution.

2. Donor Cultivation and Stewardship

 Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, ensuring effective and meaningful donor engagement, acknowledgment, and recognition.

 Conduct research to identify new funding prospects and create strategies for donor acquisition and retention.

3. Grant Writing and Management

 Lead all aspects of the grant writing process, including research, proposal preparation, reporting, and relationship management with foundations, government agencies, and corporate funders.

 Track and manage grant deliverables, deadlines, and reporting requirements.

4. Communications and Marketing

 Work closely with the Communications team to develop and implement strategies for donor communications, including newsletters, website content, social media, and annual reports.

 Develop materials that clearly convey the mission, impact, and needs of the organization to various audiences.

5. Board and Volunteer Engagement

 Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to engage board members in fundraising activities and support board-led fundraising initiatives.

 Train and guide staff and volunteers to support fundraising efforts.

6. Data Management and Reporting

 Oversee donor database management, ensuring accurate data entry, tracking, and reporting.

 Analyze fundraising data to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives, adjust strategies, and report progress to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
