Job Details
Disability Belongs™’ Associate, Development and Individual Giving is a full-time position who reports to the Manager, Individual Giving to generate contributions from individuals, foundations, corporations, and governmental agencies, as well as maintaining relationships with current funders.
The Associate, Development and Individual Giving collaborates with the Senior Director of Inclusive Philanthropy and Partnerships and other Development Associates to strengthen the team’s fundraising capabilities. This role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with donors, institutional funders, and friends and allies of Disability Belongs™. This includes researching and pursuing prospective donors and funding opportunities, collaborating across departments, preparing communications materials, database management, and supporting event planning. In addition, this position is responsible for supporting Fellows from the National Leadership Program in their training.

Key Responsibilities
Individual Giving and Grants Management
- Collaborate with Manager, Individual Giving and the Communications team to create development-focused materials for current and prospective donors, as well as the general public
- Produce letters, gift acknowledgments, and other communications with donors, partners, and Disability Belongs™ stakeholders
- Plan and coordinate personalized stewardship plans and activities for donors
- Serve as a liaison between the development department and communications department to foster more effective collaboration
- Prepare and submit funding applications and reports, information packets, background materials and research to present to potential and existing funders
- Manage relationships with donors and funders as assigned
- Communicate with assigned donors, board members, foundation staff, etc.
- Attend in-person events as Disability Belongs™’ representative as necessary
- Invite assigned contacts to both online and in-person events hosted by Disability Belongs™
Business Development
- Support growth of diverse revenue streams
- Expand support network of resource development to support programmatic mission
- Support the Manager, Individual Giving and Executive Team in event planning responsibilities including but not limited to securing venues, creating agendas, catering, and putting together invitations
Partnerships and External Relations
- Play an active role in meetings with relevant external partners and potential funders
- Prepare donor information for executives prior to meetings
- Consistently being prepared to lead or assist in meetings
- Seek out sponsorship opportunities from partner organizations
- Promote opportunities for speaking engagements and other opportunities to showcase Disability Belongs™, including donor-related events
Supervision
- Assist in daily management and ongoing mentorship of National Leadership Program Fellows for their work assignments. Ensure they maintain a path of professional development and skill acquisition that leads toward gainful employment after Disability Belongs™.
- Provide timely feedback and support to Fellows
- Support recruitment of Fellows, including reviewing applications, interviewing, and onboarding of Fellows each cohort
- Promote a culture that values commitment to inclusion, quality, and learning including for Fellows.
Database Management
- Process gifts and pledges in donor database, handle data entry and donor record maintenance
- Maintain integrity and security of data from donor database and other data
- Work with the VP, Finance and Operations and other staff to ensure contributions, pledges, and grants are accurately entered into records
- Expand database’s capabilities including but not limited to special projects, mass communications, and automatic thank you letters
- Build and maintain database information points, workflows, and overall donor information gathering.
- Manage Dashboard and list reporting, in Salesforce and in SharePoint
- Create and maintain a database guide for the development team and program leads with best practices included
Communications
- Timely communications occur, both within the department and across departments, to ensure each department is informed as necessary
- Prepare promotional and solicitation materials, proposals, reports, donor meeting briefings, and updates to share with staff and Fellows
- Promote Disability Belongs™’ resources, news articles, press releases and other relevant media to advance the organization’s image
- Attend relevant in-person meetings to network, support program staff, and gather content for social media
Administration
Complete all general responsibilities of Disability Belongs™ employees, including but not limited to:
- Maintaining a work and meeting schedule that promotes collaboration across the many areas and time zones of the organization
- Submitting time sheet and other administrative paperwork in a timely manner
- Attending regularly scheduled meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising and donor relations required.
- Strong commitment to the mission and vision of the organization, including fighting stigmas and advancing opportunity for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Commitment to disability issues as well as a strong interest in equity and issues of intersectionality and other marginalized communities.
- Exceptional “people skills” and interpersonal communication abilities that can be used in meetings with current and prospective donors.
- Interest and/or potential to grow in managerial responsibilities.
- Talented, detail-oriented, highly motivated, and honest professional with proven fundraising success.
- Experience with data entry and database management required.
- Excellent writing and communications skills, including grammar and spelling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SalesForce is required.
- Excellent research skills required.
- Ability and willingness to work flexibly in a fast-paced, fast-growing, dynamic, mission-driven nonprofit.
- Team player who is upbeat, innovative, and excited to work with our expanding team and help build our individual giving practices.
- Language proficiency other than English (especially Spanish proficiency or American Sign Language) a positive.
Salary Range: $62,000 to $72,000. Please note, the final salary offer is dependent on our pay equity policy which determines your salary based on the position’s pay band, your level of experience, the number of direct reports, and your education. To ensure continued pay equity within the organization and with the external market, we do not negotiate initial salary offers or salaries post-hiring.
